Looking to Upgrade Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring? We’re Here to Assist!

Wouldn’t you agree that roaming around with your character feels lonely sometimes? That’s exactly why Elden Ring features a special kind of AI-controlled summons to aid you on your quests and missions. 

Spirit Ashes are special items that can be found throughout the world of Elden Ring. They contain the essence of powerful spirits, and by upgrading them, you can unlock new abilities and boost their stats. Upgrading Spirit Ashes can make a big difference in combat, so it’s definitely worth the effort!

So, let me show you exactly what to do and where to go to upgrade Spirit Ashes.

Roderika Knows How to Upgrade Spirit Ashes

To start things off, you’ll need to visit the only NPC in the game capable of upgrading your Spirit Ashes – the Roderika. She’s located in Limgrave, specifically in Stormhil Shack. 

Chances are, you’ve already had a chat with her. Just look out for a person sporting a red hood, hiding in a shack (obviously).

Now, the important thing here is to speak with her 3 times in a row. Once you’ve done this, she will give you Spirit Jellyfish Ashes and a special quest, specifically a whole chain of quests.

Make sure to follow the questline and do exactly as described below.

Stormveil Castle – Starting Point for Upgrading Spirit Ashes

As you leave the Stormhill area, it’s essential to turn your attention to the Rampart Tower. There, you will find certain items needed for upgrading your Spirit Ashes. I’ll describe what to do in this place in detail:

1. Load in at a Site of Grace in Rampart Tower.
2. Go down the escalator into the room with hanging corpses. 
3. Once you enter the room, turn right into the area with a pile of corpses. 
4. Be aware, there will be some hounds waiting to feast on your flesh.
5. Defeat them and collect a couple of items.

You will see three items on the ground,  with one sitting atop the pile- the most important one. Pick everything up, and you’ll see the collectible called Chrysalid’s Memento. 

That’s the one you need!

Find Roderika Again

After collecting the Chrysalid’s Memento, you’ll be halfway through the process. Bring the item back to Roderika and talk to her. 

In most cases, you will be able to find her where you left her, at the Stormhill Shack. However, there are cases when she’s going to be at the Roundtable Hold. 

Why did Roderika Move to the Roundtable Hold?

If you play Elden Ring as I do, carelessly moving around and doing only what I want, you’ll face these kinds of problems. Now, I completely forgot to unlock this feature and upgrade Sprit Ashes, so I went straight to defeat Godrick the Grafted. 

And, since the game updates as you go, the world state changed.

I quickly learned that Roderika and Rogier will move to the Roundtable Hold after I complete my quest with the Godrick the Grafted. 

So, if you don’t find Roderika in the Stormhill Shack, go to the Roundtable Hold. 

Speak with the Blacksmith and Roderika

When you locate Roderika once more, you have to speak with her and give her the item you collected. She will talk about life, death, and basically anything to get you hyped for the Spirit Ashes upgrade. 

After she’s done, go to the blacksmith and you’ll see a new option there ‘’About Roderika’’. Click on that, and finish that dialog. Prepare for a bit of chatting and going back and forth. 

Go back to Roderika and tell her what the blacksmith said. Then, go back to the blacksmith and tell him what she said. I know, it’s a bit tiresome to speak with these characters, but it’s worth it.

For the final step, head back to Roderika and engage in conversation. After that, sit at the table and refresh. When you’re done, Roderika will vanish from the spot, but don’t worry – you’ll find her by the blacksmith’s area.

Speak with her and she will give you the ability to upgrade your Spirit Summons. Just click on ‘’Spirit Tuning’’ and you’ll complete the whole process.

But, don’t rest yet, you’ll have to find special items called Ghost and Grave Gloveworts to upgrade certain spirits. These items are crucial for upgrading Spirit Ashes, so it’s essential to know where to find them.

Ghost and Grave Glovewots – Where to Find Them

Like any other item in Elden Ring, Ghost and Grave Gloveworts are found basically anywhere on the map. There isn’t a special place where you can farm them, unfortunately.

I’ll show you where I managed to pick up a couple of them. 

Stormfoot Catacombs

This place is full of Grave Gloveworts and it’s not going to be that hard to get some. When you enter the catacombs, you’ll find a tomb on your righthand side.

You’ll see a plant with white flowers – that’s the thing you need! Collect your first Grave Gloveworts.

Now, move throughout the Stormfoot Catacombs and you’ll be able to farm at least 10 to 15 Grave Gloveworts. The whole place is a death trap if you’re not careful, so make sure to be aware of sudden jumps and traps. 

Siofra River Well

Your next task will involve moving through different locations, so be sure to search every corner thoroughly. Keep an eye out for Ghost Glovewots, which are commonly found near the river or any watery areas. Beware of the dangers that lurk in Siofra River Well – nasty ghosts will try to take your soul. In any case, make sure to explore both Siofra River Well Depths and Below the Well locations to maximize your rewards.
