Amazon’s MMO Exit Sets a Crucial Test for Throne and Liberty

Amazon’s retreat from MMO operations is not a repeat of a game closure: Throne and Liberty is staying online on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with its Western service moving to the studio-side team that already knows the game. The immediate player concern is less about characters disappearing than about whether a complicated publisher transfer slows major content plans or disrupts the services around them.

NC and its FirstSpark Games subsidiary are scheduled to take over Throne and Liberty publishing and live operations by the end of Q4 2026. Lost Ark follows later, with Smilegate assuming control in early 2027. Amazon says both games will continue operating through their respective transitions, and existing Throne and Liberty characters, accounts, gameplay and assets are expected to remain available unless a player opts out of the data transfer.

The short-term trade-off is likely to be scheduling rather than service continuity. Regular updates are expected to continue, but major Throne and Liberty additions could be held until after the handoff. A change of publisher can also alter the less visible parts of a live game: customer-support portals, account recovery, billing, moderation, regional events, marketplace policies and updated terms of service may all move to NC’s systems.

Players should make sure their account login and platform links are current before a migration window opens, retain receipts for purchases and currency, and watch official patch schedules closely. Recurring subscriptions deserve particular attention, as active subscriptions are expected to be cancelled before the broader transitions. Lost Ark players face an additional data wrinkle: progression and account data are set to transfer, but social and message-related information such as mail, guilds, friends lists, chats and blacklists will not all make the move.

Amazon’s exit marks a clear reduction in its MMO ambitions, but the practical verdict for Throne and Liberty is cautious continuity: keep playing if the current game appeals, while treating late-2026 patch timing and account notices as essential rather than routine.
