328 slots is the new fully upgraded stash maximum, before Expedition bonuses or extra space from the Nomadic Envoy. Frozen Trail adds two stash-upgrade levels to reach that ceiling. For PvE runs, distinguish that maximum from your current capacity before planning how much crafting material and quest loot to retain.

Frozen Trail — October 8, 2026
Embark Studios’ free 2.0 update covers PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Alongside the snowy Pendola Pass map, its quality-of-life changes affect existing PvE routines: storing rewards, looting Queen and Matriarch remains, choosing the Anvil, navigating while downed and interpreting sounds around obstacles.
The practical distinction is between using the new features and measuring their wider effects. You can account for the new stash ceiling and loot locations immediately. Upgrade costs, overall boss rewards, Anvil performance and the interactions between map use and the downed state need targeted testing before they justify broader changes to a trial route.
Stash capacity: two additional upgrades, up to 328 slots
The two added stash-upgrade levels raise the maximum to 328 slots without Expedition rewards or Nomadic Envoy space. If your total includes either source of additional storage, separate those bonuses when comparing it with the new base maximum.
For longer PvE trial chains, the benefit is more room to retain crafting materials, quest items and valuable loot between runs. It eases storage pressure without changing what you can carry out of an individual raid. Keep extraction priorities tied to the objectives and items you need rather than filling a loadout simply because more stash space is available back home.
What to test: Record your capacity before and after each added upgrade, together with its currency, material and progression requirements. Those details determine how quickly the extra storage becomes useful; 328 slots alone does not provide an upgrade budget.
Queen and Matriarch loot: check the leg pieces
Higher-tier loot has moved from the Queen and Matriarch’s leg armor pieces to the leg pieces themselves. That distinction matters when repeating a farming route: checking the same armor locations as before can miss the new allocation of valuable loot.

Focus your post-fight looting on the leg pieces, while keeping track of which body location supplies each reward. Treat this as a change to loot location. A claim that either enemy now gives more high-tier loot overall would require a separate comparison of total rewards.
What to test: Keep gear and squad size consistent across repeated Queen and Matriarch runs. Log notable drops by body location, rarity and item category, including leg armor, leg pieces and other lootable locations. Separate the question of where rewards appear from how many valuable items a complete kill produces; a particularly good run cannot answer both.
Anvil rarity: blue replaces green
The Anvil hand cannon moves from green to blue rarity because it was outperforming weapons within and above its previous tier. Account for the new classification when comparing weapons or deciding which finds to retain.
Frozen Trail also changes the Anvil Splitter: it is no longer a usable mod and becomes an upgrade option for the Amplified Anvil. An older setup built around equipping the Splitter as a separate mod therefore needs revisiting.
The rarity change alone is a poor basis for changing your PvE loadout. Evaluate damage, handling and ammunition use separately from the color label, particularly when comparing an amplified weapon with a regular version.
What to test: Record the Anvil’s displayed statistics and upgrade configuration, then compare handling and shots required against the same ARC target type at the same distance. Log how often it appears in loot separately. Weapon effectiveness and availability answer different loadout questions.

Downed map access: keep contributing to squad navigation
You can now open the map while downed, including while crawling. That gives you a way to explain your position and discuss the route toward extraction while teammates handle the immediate threat or attempt a rescue.
Use it to make location calls more precise, especially when a squad has split objectives. In a multi-level area, include your floor or elevation in the callout: a map location alone may leave a teammate searching above or below you.
What to test: Check map access while crawling, bleeding out and receiving a revive. Measure whether opening or interacting with it affects crawling movement or bleed-out timing. Repeat those checks in open terrain, interiors and underground areas, including during active combat, before making sustained map use part of a rescue routine.
Audio occlusion: character sounds account for obstacles
Frozen Trail adjusts character sounds when walls or other obstacles intervene between the character and the listener. The intended result is more natural audio positioning around cover and enclosed spaces.
For PvE navigation, pair those sound cues with the layout around you. In a stairwell or a room beside a corridor, a quieter character sound can reflect an intervening obstacle, so loudness alone is a poor distance estimate. Keep character-audio observations separate from ARC enemy sounds when evaluating the change.
What to test: Compare the same character sound with a clear line of sight and with a wall, closed door, floor or large obstacle between you. Keep distance consistent, then repeat in stairwells and underground spaces. Record changes in loudness and perceived direction separately; those are the useful measures for deciding whether the new audio helps locate a teammate through cover.
