Larian’s latest Baldur’s Gate 3 statistics show extreme save-scumming, 500 million mod downloads, millions of NPC deaths, and more than 9,000 portrait-ratio players.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is built to make failure interesting, but its players clearly prefer keeping a route back to the preferred timeline. A small group made more than 1,400 quicksaves in a single playthrough, alongside players logging more than 560 manual saves. That is not merely preparation for difficult fights: it reflects a game where dice rolls, dialogue checks, stealth, exploration traps, and quest outcomes can all feel consequential.

The numbers help explain why Act 1 remains the point where many runs become save-heavy. New players meet punishing encounters and branching consequences before they fully understand party composition, action economy, or how freely the game accommodates a failed check. Reloading is a reasonable response to a crash, a misclick, or a disastrous combat turn; repeatedly reloading conversations, however, turns roleplaying into outcome management. Players who want to preserve major branches should use named manual saves, while quicksaves work best as short tactical checkpoints. Honor Mode remains the deliberate alternative for anyone who wants consequences to stick.

The stranger stats point to customization and collateral damage

More than 9,000 people, including one reported total of 9,008, played in a vertical 9:16 aspect ratio. It is an unusual setup for a sprawling party RPG, but it fits a community that treats Tavs, Dark Urges, companions, outfits, and camps as subjects for carefully framed images. Portrait play may be impractical for broad battlefield awareness, yet it underlines how much Baldur’s Gate 3 functions as a character-creation and screenshot space alongside a tactical RPG.

The casualty list is less flattering. Zevlor was killed 12.3 million times across player games, while Rolan died 8.6 million times. Those totals capture both intentionally chaotic campaigns and the collateral damage of fights, failed rescues, and quests players did not fully understand. They are a reminder that important NPCs can be vulnerable long before a player realizes their later value.

Meanwhile, 13,000 uploaded mods have generated 500 million downloads. The scale points to demand well beyond novelty: interface cleanup, inventory and party management, cosmetics, camera tools, new classes and races, and balance changes all extend a game players are still reshaping. The next useful statistic will be whether that appetite keeps growing as modders target the same friction points exposed by the save data.
