The danger is not simply encountering a cheater in one bad match. Reports describe an exploit that appears to target persistent multiplayer account data in the PS4/PS5 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, potentially affecting ranks, unlock tracking, custom classes, and access to future lobbies.
Players say a user known as “C Isn’t Sharp” has entered public games and forced other accounts into an impossible prestige state, commonly called “Prestige 16” or Master Prestige. That rank falls outside the game’s normal progression path. The reported sequence also includes altered classes followed by a boot from the lobby, with some affected players subsequently unable to find or join matches normally.
The most consequential claims concern progression. Weapon camo and attachment tracking may stop working or desync, while other reports describe stat resets, negative XP, or accounts pushed below level 1. If the game’s backend reads that account state as ineligible for multiplayer, reinstalling the game would not address the underlying problem; the profile would need server-side restoration.

Activision has acknowledged reported issues affecting the Black Ops PlayStation ports, disabled select playlists during its investigation, and reportedly deployed an initial server-side mitigation aimed at the XP exploit. Accounts affected by negative XP were reportedly restored to level 20, but players should not assume every form of corrupted progression or loadout data is automatically recoverable.
For now, leave any lobby where a player displays an impossible prestige or suspicious rank before the match begins, and avoid XP or boosting lobbies. Anyone hit by the issue should save video of the lobby and error message, screenshots of rank and classes before and after the incident, the match time window, platform model, and proof of failed matchmaking or broken camo and attachment tracking.

A credible resolution needs playlist containment, confirmation that invalid progression writes are blocked, and a clear restoration path for affected accounts.
