“Bloody Tears” first became a Castlevania fixture in Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest; using it as the name and musical centrepiece of Belmont’s Curse’s latest trailer is a pointed statement of intent. Konami is selling this as a new 2D action-exploration game, but one determined to sound and look like it belongs to the Belmont lineage.
The setting is Paris in 1499, 23 years after Castlevania: Dracula’s Curse. Rose Belmont, Trevor Belmont’s successor, enters that history with the Vampire Killer whip, fighting through gothic locations and boss encounters while confronting a demonic, hellbound threat tied to her family’s curse. The trailer’s use of a new “Bloody Tears” arrangement gives those familiar ingredients a stronger purpose than pure nostalgia: it frames Rose’s adventure as a continuation of the series’ old musical and visual language.
Developed by Evil Empire and Motion Twin, the team associated with Dead Cells, Belmont’s Curse is positioned closer to a fast modern Metroidvania than the deliberate, linear rhythm of early Castlevania. Rose uses tarot cards that become Arcana spells and abilities, alongside weapon categories and Relics. The footage also emphasizes whip-based combat and traversal, while exploration retains the essential map, route-opening and save-point cadence expected from an Igavania-style structure.

That combination is the meaningful unknown before launch. The game has shown its identity clearly, but not the full detail of its progression, weapon roster, upgrades or PC requirements. Pricing and the contents of any pre-order bonus also remain unspecified. Players should verify those details before committing, particularly if choosing the PC edition.
Belmont’s Curse releases simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam on October 15, 2026; Microsoft’s PC storefront is also part of the rollout. No native Switch 2 version has been confirmed.

The verdict: the “Bloody Tears” trailer makes Belmont’s Curse look like a credible modern successor rather than a detached revival — provided Evil Empire can turn that confident presentation into exploration with equal depth.
