Clair Obscur: Expedition 33: All Painting Workshop Locations and Rewards

FinalBoss·8/12/2026·6 min read

The Painting Workshop chain in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 starts like a set of small overworld secrets, then becomes a late-game side quest with a boss, high-value weapon upgrade material, and the Noir et Blanc trophy or achievement. There are three workshops in total. Clear the first two once Esquie can swim, save the floating island east of Sirene for flight, and always place each Beast item on the workshop statue before leaving.

The trap is leaving after speaking with the Faceless Boy. Choosing “We Will” gives you a Beast item, but the workshop only advances when that item is used on the statue inside the same painted area. Missing that interaction turns a clean three-stop route into an unnecessary return trip.

Painting Workshop requirements and best time to start

Plan the chain around Esquie’s traversal upgrades rather than around the story areas where you first notice the workshop icons. Swimming opens access to the first two locations and makes them efficient to clear during overworld cleanup. Flight is required for the third workshop on the floating island east of Sirene, so the full quest naturally finishes later.

  • First and second workshops: Return once Esquie has swimming and you can move freely through the earlier overworld region cluster.
  • Third workshop: Wait until Esquie can fly; the Sirene workshop sits on a floating island.
  • Every workshop: Follow the painted interior’s platforming route, speak to the Faceless Boy, select “We Will”, then use the Beast item on the nearby statue.
  • Final payoff: Placing all three items opens the route to Lampmaster and completes the requirements for Noir et Blanc.

All Painting Workshop locations and Beast item rewards

The workshops can be encountered in a slightly different order depending on your Act II exploration route, but this order follows their traversal requirements and keeps backtracking low.

Painting Workshop 1: Stone Wave Cliffs coast

The first entrance is on the coastal island northeast of Stone Wave Cliffs, positioned southeast of Forgotten Battlefield. Look for the painting entrance on the overworld rather than expecting a conventional side-quest marker.

Inside, work through the short painted platforming section until you reach the Faceless Boy. Select “We Will” to receive Light of the Beast. Continue to the statue and use the item immediately. This placement is part of the quest progression, so carrying Light of the Beast out of the workshop leaves this branch incomplete.

Painting Workshop 2: Forgotten Battlefield and Monoco Station

The second workshop lies northwest of Forgotten Battlefield, near or across from Monoco Station. It is often the first workshop players spot while moving through Act II, but it is efficient to pair it with the Stone Wave Cliffs location once swimming is available.

The completion pattern stays the same: clear the interior path, find the Faceless Boy, choose “We Will”, and collect Colour of the Beast. Use Colour of the Beast on the statue before returning to the world map. Each workshop contributes one piece to the same larger mechanism, so treating the entrances as isolated collectibles is where progress commonly stalls.

Painting Workshop 3: Sirene floating island

The final workshop is east of Sirene on a floating island. Flight is the decisive gate here, which is why the Painting Workshop chain finishes much later than its first two stops. Reaching the first pair with swimming does not make the full reward path available yet.

Complete the interior route, speak to the Faceless Boy, and select “We Will” for Shape of the Beast. Place Shape of the Beast on the statue. With all three Beast items contributed, the previously blocked area opens and leads into the final encounter.

How to unlock Lampmaster and Noir et Blanc

Lampmaster becomes available after the three Beast items — Light, Colour, and Shape — have been placed on their workshop statues. The opened section after the final placement leads to the boss arena. Defeating Lampmaster completes the workshop quest’s combat payoff and unlocks the Noir et Blanc trophy or achievement.

All Painting Workshop rewards

The reward pool makes this quest worth finishing during late-game cleanup, especially if you are upgrading weapons or completing achievements.

  • At Death’s Door
  • Energising Attack I
  • Grandiose Chroma Catalyst ×3
  • Recoat
  • Perfect Chroma Catalyst, received from the Boy near the exit after the Lampmaster fight
  • Noir et Blanc trophy or achievement

The Perfect Chroma Catalyst is the standout reward because it is used to raise a weapon to its maximum level. Speak to the Boy after the boss instead of leaving as soon as Lampmaster falls; the catalyst is a separate post-fight pickup.

Painting Workshop mistakes that block progress

  • Leaving after the Faceless Boy dialogue: Take the Beast item to the workshop statue before exiting.
  • Trying to finish all three with swimming: The Sirene location remains inaccessible until Esquie can fly.
  • Searching only story paths: Workshop entrances are overworld painting icons, often positioned off the main route on islands or remote map edges.
  • Forgetting the post-boss Boy: The Perfect Chroma Catalyst comes after Lampmaster, near the exit.

The cleanest Painting Workshop route

Clear the Stone Wave Cliffs and Forgotten Battlefield workshops together as soon as swimming opens their region cluster. Then leave the Sirene floating island until flight is available, complete the third statue, defeat Lampmaster, and collect the final catalyst from the Boy. That route respects the quest’s actual progression gates and secures every Painting Workshop reward in one focused late-game pass.
