The deciding factor is progression, not purchase: Mask of Idris is built for players who have already reached Code Vein II’s post-game. Clearing the Luna Fraterna ending and advancing Valentin’s Request are required before the new story opens, including the relevant “Discuss with Valentin: MagMell Island’s Book” step.
Bandai Namco will release the first paid Code Vein II expansion on September 9, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. It sends players into the Forsaken World, an alternate space formed from Temporal Rifts caused by changes to history. Its central Spindle of Pathos draws emotions from across time and space, placing the DLC’s story around colliding timelines and a separate, history-altering narrative rather than a simple side mission.
The expansion adds partners Liv Voda and Lou Magmell. Liv is Valentin Voda’s half-sister, the original guardian of the Temporal Rift, and an aggressive Halberd fighter. Lou returns as a different individual from the Revenant encountered in the main campaign, having entered the Forsaken World following another tragedy. Their presence matters beyond story scenes: the DLC and its accompanying update further develop partner-led exploration in the post-game area.

Combat additions include new weapons and Formae. Grave Knocker is a martial-arts Formae compatible with every weapon type, while Sword of Karma: Idris summons a great sword carrying the flames of Pathos. That makes Mask of Idris a gameplay expansion, not a cosmetic add-on, although a complete list of its weapons, Formae, bosses, and rewards has not been detailed.
Free Version 2.0 launches on the same day, adding further post-main-game content and Forsaken World exploration with partners for all players. Mask of Idris is included with Digital Deluxe and Ultimate editions, while its standalone price has not been announced.

Finish the required ending and Valentin quest chain before September 9 if the Forsaken World is your reason to return.
