Counter-Strike 2: How to Get, Hatch, and Feed a Chicken Pet

On Steam PC, the only route to a Counter-Strike 2 chicken pet is getting a Chicken Egg from a Weekly Care Package. You need Prime Status and the first XP rank-up of the week to receive that package, and the egg is a random reward choice. If it appears, taking it consumes both weekly reward slots, then places the egg beside your agent on the main menu.

The important trap: Chicken Feed also comes from Weekly Care Packages, also costs both reward slots, and cannot be bought on the Steam Community Market. Keep the egg supplied with feed during incubation and growth. A pet that runs out of food permanently leaves rather than waiting safely for the next drop.

The chicken system arrived quietly during the September 22, 2026 update period, alongside the new 3v3 Rush mode, Premier map-vote changes, silent reloads, improved bullet-impact visibility, and other gameplay and UI updates. Valve did not publish a full pet-system breakdown, so several timing, rarity, and customization details remain undefined.

Get a Chicken Egg From a Weekly Care Package

Chicken Eggs are Weekly Care Package rewards, sometimes also called Weekly Drops. There is no store purchase, Steam Market listing, trade route, or direct unlock route for the egg.

1. Have Prime Status active on your Steam PC account.
2. Earn your first XP rank-up of the week to receive the Weekly Care Package.
3. Open the package and inspect the available reward choices.
4. Select Chicken Egg if it is offered.
5. Accept that the egg uses both reward slots for that package, replacing the normal second reward choice.

The egg is not guaranteed to appear each week, and Valve has not published its drop rate. You also cannot keep pulling eggs while one pet is active: the system supports one active chicken pet per account.

Once claimed, the egg appears beside your agent in the CS2 main menu. You can inspect and rotate it through the pet display while it incubates, but Valve has not documented a universal keyboard, mouse, or controller input path for every pet interaction.

How Hatching Works

A Chicken Egg hatches into a chick, not a full-grown chicken, after about one week. The egg needs Chicken Feed available during that period. If its food supply is exhausted, it does not finish hatching.

• Expected hatch time: about one week after claiming the egg.
• Hatch result: a chick appears in the main-menu pet display.
• Critical condition: the egg must have feed available through incubation.
• Unknown timing detail: Valve has not given an exact timer in hours or days.
• Unknown progression detail: it is not established whether incubation and growth continue while CS2 is closed.

Do not plan around a precise seven-day timer. “About a week” is the useful expectation, while the exact completion point and offline behavior remain unspecified.

Get and Use Chicken Feed

Chicken Feed is another random Weekly Care Package reward. Like the egg, selecting feed consumes both available reward slots for that week. Feed reward offers can include a 4 lb bag, an 8 lb bag, or two 8 lb bags for a total of 16 lb.

The bag size is visible, but Valve has not defined how many real-time days each amount supports an egg, chick, pullet, or adult chicken. Treat every feed offer as valuable because there is no published depletion schedule and no market fallback if the pet is hungry.

CS2 provides a low-food warning when the pet is running out of food. The warning threshold is not documented, so waiting for that notification before thinking about feed is risky. Feed availability determines whether the egg hatches and whether the chick continues to develop.

If food reaches zero, the pet permanently leaves; the in-game message describes it as having “accepted a position elsewhere.” Growth does not pause until you find another bag. The pet is gone.

Chicken Growth Stages and Lifespan

The documented chicken lifecycle is egg → chick → pullet → hen. File-derived timing points to roughly 140 days of post-hatch life if you keep the pet fed continuously.

Chicken variants fall under three known breed names: Catalana, Silkie, and Polish. The Hatchbook records pet development and variant information, although its full purpose, historical tracking rules, and any reward function have not been defined.

Feed lets the pet reach later growth stages, where its appearance becomes clear. It does not establish that feeding changes a breed, colour, rarity, or variant outcome. The system does not specify whether a variant is set when the egg drops, when it hatches, or at a later stage.
