Crimson Desert: How to Complete Contradiction Quest – All Answers

FinalBoss·8/12/2026·7 min read

The Weight of Knowledge questline in Crimson Desert begins as a missing-book investigation in Scholastone Institute, then turns into a strict deduction test during Contradiction. The fastest route is to finish the prerequisite interviews, return to the Institute Steward in the main library, select the five testimony contradictions below, then capture Javier behind the Scholastone Archive and deliver him to the Orc Scholar. The interrogation is the only part that can send you back to review the case, so handle those answers carefully.

Contradiction is a Hernand Commissions faction quest. It awards the Kinetic Dolphin Family Statue and +100 Hernandian Contribution. Once it is available, the quest itself takes roughly five to 10 minutes; reaching it through the earlier investigation chain usually takes 20 to 40 minutes, depending on travel and dialogue speed.

Contradiction Quest Prerequisites and Starting Location

You cannot begin Contradiction by walking directly to the Steward early. It unlocks as part of the Weight of Knowledge chain in Scholastone Institute, located in Hernand. If you are navigating without a direct marker, Scholastone is in southwestern Hernand, west of the Witchwoods.

  • Complete The Missing Forbidden Book.
  • Continue into Investigation.
  • Interview every required suspect during the investigation.
  • Return to the Institute Steward in Scholastone’s main library after the final interview.

The Steward conversation is the real trigger for Contradiction. Finishing the interviews provides the evidence, but the quest does not resolve until you use that information during the five-answer interrogation.

All Five Contradiction Answers

The Steward presents five two-choice prompts based on the testimony gathered during Investigation. Choose the response that exposes the conflict in a suspect’s story. The wording can be easy to misread because several answers sound plausible in isolation; focus on the detail that cannot fit with the timeline, library access, or another witness statement.

  • Question 1: Choose the answer about a meeting with a noble from out of town.
  • Question 2: Choose the answer tied to the missing book and the contradiction over library access.
  • Question 3: Choose the answer about someone being scolded by the librarian.
  • Question 4: Choose the answer containing the word “except.”
  • Question 5: Choose the final answer identifying the culprit’s movements as inconsistent with the collected testimonies.

Important: Do not select answers based on which suspect seems generally suspicious. Each correct response points to a specific factual clash. The useful evidence categories are time of day, where a suspect claims to have been, who could enter the library, and whether another character’s account makes that claim impossible.

How to Read the Evidence If an Answer Looks Unclear

The quest is built around contradictions rather than physical evidence items. When the Steward mentions an alibi, mentally check it against the investigation notes for three things: whether the library was accessible at that time, whether another witness placed the suspect elsewhere, and whether the suspect’s claimed meeting could have happened as described.

  • Prioritize details involving dawn, opening times, and closing times.
  • Pay attention to statements about who was allowed into the library.
  • Treat the “noble from out of town” response as a timeline clue, rather than a character detail.
  • For the last prompt, pick the response that directly identifies a movement or location conflict.

A wrong selection does not permanently fail the quest. The Steward sends you back to review the investigation, after which you can restart the questioning. That is inconvenient, but it also means there is no reason to abandon the chain or reload an older save solely because one dialogue choice went wrong.

Find Javier at the Scholastone Archive

After answering all five prompts correctly, leave the Steward and head south to the Scholastone Archive. The next objective is behind the archive building, rather than inside the main library where the interrogation took place.

Approach Javier and the nearby NPC behind the archive. A short scripted scene begins when you get close enough, revealing the confrontation and opening the capture portion of the quest.

How to Capture and Deliver Javier

Javier must be handled as a capture target. Use the standard restraining action to tie him up, then pick him up. Leaving him unsecured or moving away before completing the restraint can cause the sequence to reset or force you to re-engage him.

  • Wait for the confrontation scene behind the archive to finish.
  • Restrain Javier rather than trying to leave the area after confronting him.
  • Pick him up once he is tied.
  • Carry him around to the front of the Scholastone Archive.
  • Deliver him to the Orc Scholar waiting in the front plaza, near the horse statue.

The delivery point is close, but the front plaza requirement matters. Carrying Javier around the archive instead of searching the rear courtyard prevents wasted time looking for the hand-in NPC in the wrong place.

Contradiction Quest Rewards

Handing Javier over to the Orc Scholar completes Contradiction and grants the following rewards:

  • Kinetic Dolphin Family Statue, a camp decoration item.
  • +100 Hernandian Contribution for regional faction progression.
  • The statue can also be sold for 39 silver if camp decoration is not a priority.

Common Contradiction Quest Mistakes

The quest’s difficulty comes from its shift in format. Earlier parts of the chain ask you to speak with suspects and follow leads, while Contradiction expects you to retain the exact conflicts in those conversations.

  • Going to the Steward too early: Finish every suspect interview in Investigation first.
  • Picking the most suspicious-sounding answer: Choose the testimony detail that directly conflicts with another statement.
  • Forgetting Question 4: The correct response is the option containing “except.”
  • Searching the archive interior: Javier is found behind the Scholastone Archive after the interrogation.
  • Failing to restrain Javier: Tie him up before carrying him to the Orc Scholar.
  • Looking for the delivery NPC behind the building: The Orc Scholar waits at the archive’s front plaza, near the horse statue.

Practical Route Summary

Complete The Missing Forbidden Book and Investigation, then return to the Institute Steward in Scholastone’s main library. Use the noble meeting, library-access, librarian scolding, “except,” and inconsistent-movements answers in that order. Once Javier is exposed, go behind the Scholastone Archive, tie him up, and carry him to the Orc Scholar in the front plaza. The reward is immediate, and the 100 Hernandian Contribution makes the short quest worth clearing before moving on with Hernand progression.
