Crimson Desert: How to Get Frost Cursed Armor & Frozen Anguish – Early Game
Advertisement
Frost Cursed Armor & Frozen Anguish Overview
The Frost Cursed armor set and the Frozen Anguish two-handed sword are some of the most stylish rewards you can get early in Crimson Desert. The full set gives you heavy, villainous plate with excellent ice resistance, and Frozen Anguish adds a brutal greatsword with a stamina siphon effect. The best part: every single piece is found in the open world, with no mandatory boss fights.
All pieces are clustered around the Demenis / Smoking Lands side of the map. As long as you have a few traversal abilities unlocked and you’re comfortable sneaking past higher-level enemies, you can grab the whole set and the sword in an evening.
Prerequisites and Quick Checklist
Before you start, make sure you’ve got a few things ready. This route assumes you’re roughly at the point in the story where Demenis opens up, but exact level isn’t critical if you’re willing to dodge and run.
Abilities & Tools You Need
Stab Skill – Needed to pierce waterfall curtains and access three of the armor caves (gloves, boots, chestplate). Use the charged stab input: on default controls, hold R1 + Triangle (PlayStation) / RB + Y (Xbox) / your mapped heavy+special on PC.
Blinding Light & Focus Light – Your basic light ability plus its focused variant, used to burn brambles blocking the cape and helmet entrances.
Force Palm (or equivalent heavy smash ability) – Required once inside Mist Shard Cave to break a rock door for the chestplate.
Some fire damage source (optional backup) – A fire-imbued weapon or fire arrows can also burn brambles if you prefer that over light abilities.
Recommended Preparation
Story Progress: Reached the Demenis region.
Gear: Decent early armor and a ranged option to tag enemies from a distance if they block your path.
Supplies: A handful of healing items for the Sanctum of Expiation and Spire of Frost runs.
Cold Protection: Not mandatory, but helpful for the Spire of Frost. The Frost Cursed pieces themselves will help you here once you have them.
With that in place, you can grab the pieces in almost any order, but this route minimizes backtracking and makes the Spire of Frost run much safer by getting armor first.
Frost Cursed Cape – Sanctum of Expiation
The cape is usually the first Frost Cursed piece people notice, and it sits inside the Sanctum of Expiation. This area is packed with enemies and a puzzle, but you do not need to clear the sanctum or finish the puzzle to get the cape.
How to Reach the Cape Chest
Enter the Sanctum of Expiation as normal. Stay cautious; you can sneak around most groups by hugging the edges of the halls.
Look for a <strongdoorway a="" beyond="" cracked="" floor="" it<="" just="" strong="" with="">. It stands out from the cleaner stone around it.
Pass through that doorway and you’ll see thick brambles blocking the path ahead.
Equip your light ability. Use Blinding Light to highlight the brambles, then hold the input for Focus Light to actually ignite and burn them away.
Once the bramble disappears, a small opening appears low to the ground. Crouch and crawl through.
Watch for floor spikes and traps in this tunnel. Move slowly and pan your camera down to avoid stepping directly onto spike tiles.
Follow the corridor around to the right. In a small chamber, you’ll find a chest: open it to obtain the Frost Cursed Cape.
The main mistake here is trying to engage everything in the sanctum. It’s much faster to sprint between cover, avoid detection where possible, and head straight for the cracked-floor doorway.

Frost Cursed Helmet – Chattering Rocks
The helmet is very close by, at Chattering Rocks. Like the cape, it’s locked behind burnable brambles, so once you’ve handled the Sanctum you already know the trick.
Helmet Location Steps
Travel to the Chattering Rocks ruins (just down the road from the Sanctum area).
Search for a smaller ruined section with an entrance that’s completely choked with vines/brambles. It looks like a collapsed side room rather than a main hall.
Use Blinding Light → Focus Light (or any reliable fire source) to burn the brambles away.
Walk inside the now-open room and loot the chest to get the Frost Cursed Helmet.
This pickup is effectively free once you know where to look. Just be ready for a few wandering enemies in the ruins; you can clear them or simply circle around them to the vine-covered entry.
Frost Cursed Gloves – Luna Spirit Grotto Waterfall Cave
The next three pieces are all hidden behind waterfalls and require the Stab ability. The gloves sit in the waterfall near the Luna Spirit Grotto Waterfall Cave.
Breaking Through the First Waterfall
Head to the waterfall marked as the entrance to Luna Spirit Grotto on your map.
Stand directly in front of the waterfall curtain. If you just walk or roll into the water, you’ll usually bounce off.
Line up so your character is facing straight into the center of the falls.
Hold the input for a charged stab: R1 + Triangle (PS5) / RB + Y (Xbox) / your assigned keys on PC.
Release to perform a lunging stab into the waterfall. Done correctly, you’ll pierce through the water and pop out inside the cave.
If you bounce off the water, adjust slightly and charge again. Getting used to the timing and alignment usually takes a couple of tries.
Once inside, explore the short cave and open the chest containing the Frost Cursed Gloves.
The key here is fully charging the stab and aiming your character straight into the falls. A half-charged or angled stab is what makes most players slide off instead of entering.

Frost Cursed Boots – Well of Tragedy Grotto Cave
The boots use the exact same waterfall interaction, this time at the Well of Tragedy Grotto Cave.
Boots Location Steps
Travel to the Well of Tragedy marker.
Locate the waterfall that marks the grotto entrance. Clear out nearby enemies if they keep interrupting your stab charge.
Stand close to the falling water, line up in the center, and charge a stab with R1 + Triangle / RB + Y.
Stab through to enter the cave interior.
Inside you’ll find a large treasure chest. Open it to obtain the Frost Cursed Boots.
This same chest also contains a refined Palmer pill, a strong healing item that restores you to full when used. Grab it while you’re here.
Once you’re used to the stab timing from Luna Spirit Grotto, this one is straightforward. Just don’t try to rush the animation while you’re being hit; back off, reset, and then line up again.
Frost Cursed Chestplate – Mist Shard Cave
The main chestplate is slightly more involved: you still stab through a waterfall, but you’ll also break an internal rock door and there’s some valuable ore worth mining while you’re inside.
Chestplate Route
Travel north of Demenis toward the Mist Shard Cave marker.
Again, look for the waterfall entrance. This is another stab-only curtain.
Charge and perform the stab into the waterfall to access the cave.
Once inside, you’ll notice this is effectively a gold cave – ore nodes are scattered around. If you have time, mine them; it’s easy extra materials and money.
Deeper into the cave, you’ll encounter a blocked stone doorway.
Use Force Palm (or your equivalent heavy impact ability) on the doorway to shatter the rock barrier. Normal attacks won’t break it.
Beyond the broken door is a chamber with a chest and several ornodes (more ore).
Loot the chest to get the Frost Cursed Chestplate.
If you come here without Force Palm unlocked, you’ll be able to enter the cave but not actually reach the chest, so it’s worth double-checking that ability before you make the trip.
Frozen Anguish – Spire of Frost Greatsword
With the full armor set in hand, it’s time to grab the matching weapon: Frozen Anguish, a two-handed sword with a built-in stamina siphon effect. It’s located at the Spire of Frost in the middle of the map.

Preparing for the Spire of Frost
The area around the Spire is extremely cold and patrolled by flying mages and other high-level enemies.
Equip as many Frost Cursed pieces as you can before heading out. Their high ice resistance noticeably reduces the pressure from the environment.
Bring a few extra healing items; it’s easy to take chip damage from spells and fall damage while climbing.
Getting Inside the Spire
Approach the Spire of Frost and work your way up the exterior path and ledges, avoiding or quickly clearing smaller groups of enemies.
At the entrance level, you’ll find an interactable mechanism associated with the Spire’s door. Interact and stay in place until the door-opening animation completes.
Once the large gate slowly opens, head inside. No boss fight is attached to this step; the challenge is just reaching the tower safely.
Finding the Frozen Anguish Chest
From just inside the Spire, walk forward into the main chamber.
Instead of going up, look directly underneath the central staircase.
There’s a chest tucked underneath. Open it to obtain Frozen Anguish.
In my runs, no extra traversal abilities beyond basic climbing were needed for the Spire itself. Some players report using stab tricks on nearby ledges, but as long as you’re patient with the climb and careful around the mages, the route to the chest is straightforward.
How Good Is Frost Cursed Gear? Strengths and Limitations
Visually, Frost Cursed is easily one of the standout sets in Crimson Desert. Paired with Frozen Anguish, it has that towering, dark-knight silhouette that makes even basic exploration feel dramatic. Mechanically, though, there are a couple of caveats you should know about before you commit long term.
High Ice Resistance: Every piece leans heavily into frost protection, making the set ideal for cold zones and ice-imbued enemies. It also pairs well with an ice elemental imbument playstyle.
Limited Upgrade Paths: Some Frost Cursed pieces cannot be upgraded at all; others are capped after a few levels of refinement (around four tiers). That means they’ll eventually be outclassed by endgame armor with better scaling.
Few or No Slots: The main armor doesn’t come with many mod slots by default. Compared to more flexible sets, your build customization is more restricted.
Frozen Anguish Stamina Siphon: The sword’s stamina drain on hit is excellent for aggressive two-handed play, letting you stay on the offense longer, especially in early and mid-game content.
Helmet/Cape Visual Quirk: The Frost Cursed helmet doesn’t visually combine with some hooded capes. In practice, the helmet’s model is strong enough that this is mostly a cosmetic nitpick.
In practice, this makes Frost Cursed perfect as an early to mid-game power set and a long-term fashion choice, but not necessarily your final optimized build. Grab it for the look and the frost resistance, then be ready to transition to higher-scaling gear later while keeping Frozen Anguish (and the transmog look, if you prefer) in rotation.
Quick Recap Route (No Bosses Required)
1. Sanctum of Expiation – Frost Cursed Cape Find the cracked-floor doorway → burn brambles with Focus Light → crawl through, avoid spikes, loot chest.
3. Luna Spirit Grotto Waterfall Cave – Frost Cursed Gloves Stab through waterfall with charged stab → explore cave → loot gloves chest.
4. Well of Tragedy Grotto Cave – Frost Cursed Boots Repeat stab-through-waterfall trick → open large chest for boots and a refined Palmer pill.
5. Mist Shard Cave – Frost Cursed Chestplate North of Demenis → stab through waterfall → mine ore → break rock door with Force Palm → loot chestplate.
6. Spire of Frost – Frozen Anguish Sword Equip Frost Cursed armor for cold resistance → climb to Spire entrance, avoiding flying mages → use the mechanism to open the tower → inside, grab the chest under the stairs for Frozen Anguish.
Follow that order around Demenis and the Smoking Lands and you’ll walk away with a complete, thematically matched set and a powerful greatsword, all without needing to clear a single major boss encounter along the way.
