The Antumbra Sword comes from defeating Antumbra’s Sword in the Sanctum of Absolution, then clearing the remaining enemies in the ruin. The reward’s in-game name is Vessel of Dark Pursuit: an Impressive two-handed sword with the Wound of Darkness Abyss Gear effect.
The important trap: this is not an open-world sword sitting in a chest or on a corpse. The Antumbra encounter is locked behind the Witch quest progression. Reaching the Sanctum early, or entering without the correct quest state, will leave the boss unavailable.
Progress Crimson Desert’s main story until you have obtained both Axiom Force and the Kuku Pot. These unlock access to The Witch of Wisdom, the Witch faction quest line that leads into the Cloister of Ruination objective and the Sanctum of Absolution.
If you have reached the correct ruin but Antumbra’s Sword does not appear, return to the quest log first. The most likely issue is that The Witch of Wisdom has not been started or progressed far enough.
The fight takes place at the Sanctum of Absolution in the southwest of Hernand. It is southwest of Scholastone Institute, around the route between the Witchwoods and Sunset Valley. The Cloister of Ruination quest marker leads into the same area.
Activate the nearby Abyss Nexus before entering if it is available. Antumbra’s Sword is a serious boss encounter, and the Nexus cuts down the return trip if you need another attempt.
Antumbra’s Sword is an undead, lich-like guardian built to punish long attack strings. The reliable approach is to lock on, use Focus mode to slow the pace, parry ordinary melee swings, and take only short punish windows after a stagger or interruption.
Focus mode matters because this encounter puts a premium on recognizing the final moment of a weapon swing. It gives you more room to read an incoming normal strike and time a parry or counter instead of trying to trade damage.
Save Blinding Flash for dangerous attacks and use it to interrupt Antumbra’s Sword before the move finishes. It is particularly valuable against Ground Thrust and the three-hit Shadow Strike sequence. A successful interruption creates the cleanest opening for a short combo and adds pressure to the boss’s yellow stagger bar.
When the yellow bar fills, use the available finisher rather than continuing ordinary attacks. The finisher converts the stagger into dependable damage and keeps the fight from becoming a drawn-out exchange.
Red-highlighted attacks are unblockable. Move to Antumbra’s Sword’s side or behind it as those attacks begin; blocking or attempting to force a parry is the wrong response. Reset your position after the dodge, wait for a normal melee swing or a Blinding Flash opening, then resume the counter-focused plan.
Controller and keyboard bindings can differ from the default layouts, so use the control names shown in your own settings rather than relying on a universal button prompt. The key sequence is Focus, parry or counter, Blinding Flash interruption, stagger finisher.

Defeating Antumbra’s Sword does not always finish the reward sequence immediately. Sweep the Sanctum of Absolution for any remaining defenders and eliminate them before leaving. The clear state is what finalizes the weapon reward.
This is the most common reason players think the sword failed to drop: the elite boss is dead, but the ruin still contains hostile enemies. Finish the entire encounter instead of fast traveling away after the boss animation.
The weapon earned from this encounter is Vessel of Dark Pursuit, commonly called the Antumbra Sword because it comes from Antumbra’s Sword. It is an Impressive two-handed sword that carries the Wound of Darkness Abyss Gear effect.
Vessel of Dark Pursuit is worth the detour for players already following Witch faction content or building around two-handed weapons. Its Abyss Gear property gives it more value than routine weapon loot, while the boss reward route means you earn it through progression rather than hoping for a random drop.
A full attack-power, scaling, and rarity breakdown is not attached to the encounter reward information, so treat Wound of Darkness and the two-handed moveset as the deciding factors. Players who dislike deliberate parry timing may find the fight demanding, but the Sanctum’s nearby Abyss Nexus makes repeat attempts much less punishing.
Once the Sanctum is fully cleared, the reward is Vessel of Dark Pursuit, the two-handed Wound of Darkness weapon referred to as the Antumbra Sword.
