The crucial limit is one Cube-crafted Mythic equipped at a time. That restriction keeps Diablo IV’s new deterministic route from replacing every other chase-item decision, but it still changes which Uniques deserve stash space: a nearly perfect, build-defining drop may now be the foundation of a planned Mythic rather than salvage fodder.
Patch 3.2.0, the public test build for Season of Infernal Chaos, revises the Horadric Cube with an “Upgrade Direct” recipe. Put an eligible Unique into that recipe and it returns as the same item at Mythic quality, retaining its affixes and existing Tempering and Masterworking. Blizzard’s stated goal is to remove the random factor from this conversion. An Unmodifiable Unique cannot use the recipe, so players should not Transfigure a potential upgrade candidate prematurely.
Random Mythic crafting is not disappearing. The Blacksmith and Jeweler continue to offer alternate crafting paths, making Season 15 a choice between targeted progression and broader RNG rolls. The direct route is most valuable when a player already has the exact Unique needed for a build, especially one with Greater Affixes and strong upgrade results. Resources used to fish for any useful Mythic may be better saved for converting that specific finished item.

The PTR also brings Rebirth, allowing established Eternal Realm characters to enter the seasonal framework rather than requiring veterans to start with a newly created character. That makes older characters useful test subjects for the expanded item systems, including returning legacy Uniques, Soul Splinters, the Horadric Post, and Mythic-rarity charms.
Soul Splinters add another socketable layer to endgame planning, while challenge dungeons and ambushes broaden the season’s activities beyond loot conversion alone. The larger implication is a more deliberate gear loop: find the right Unique, improve it first, then decide whether it merits the single direct-crafted Mythic slot.

The 3.2.0 PTR runs from August 4 at 10 a.m. PDT through August 11 at 10 a.m. PDT, with final costs and balance details still the key elements to watch before Season 15 launches.
