The Cathedral is the landmark to use in Old Tristram. The cow stands behind the building, rather than beside the old Hell Rift where earlier searches focused. The gloves’ item name is Foreshanks of the Bovine.
Patch 3.2.3 added the cow without mentioning it in the patch notes, ending weeks of searching for the remaining Bovine appearance. The acquisition method is a short interaction rather than another boss encounter.

Unlock Old Tristram through Echo of Tristram
If Old Tristram is still inaccessible, complete the Echo of Tristram questline, collecting all ten of Deckard Cain’s journals. This opens access to the area containing the Cathedral and the cow.
If you can already enter Old Tristram, proceed directly to the Cathedral. The glove pickup does not require completing one of the Bovine set’s separate boss encounters.
Where to find the cow and get Bovine Foreshanks
- Enter Old Tristram and head toward the Cathedral. Use the building at the top of the area as your destination; searching around the old Hell Rift takes you away from the glove source.
- Walk around to the rear of the Cathedral. Locate the cow standing behind the building. Reaching the Cathedral entrance alone does not bring you to the interaction.
- Interact with the cow to pet it. This causes Foreshanks of the Bovine to drop. Collect the item from the ground.
No fight is required for this pickup. Foreshanks of the Bovine is a cosmetic appearance, so the reward fills the collection’s glove slot rather than providing a combat-equipment upgrade.
What to try if the cow is missing
If the cow is absent from the rear of the Cathedral, leave Old Tristram and re-enter. If it remains absent or offers no interaction, try logging out and back in, or entering on another difficulty. These are troubleshooting attempts, not additional steps in the acquisition route.
If the problem is access to Old Tristram itself, return to Echo of Tristram and check the ten-journal requirement. Changing sessions does not replace that progression step.
All five Bovine cosmetic pieces and their sources
The Bovine set contains five appearances and can be worn by every class. Each piece has its own source; collecting the Cathedral gloves does not award the rest of the set.
