Following community feedback on the early-access launch, Funcom’s latest update—led by Creative Director Joel Bylos—addresses key balance and progression concerns in Dune Awakening.
To alleviate constant PvP pressure, Funcom will carve out exclusive PvE regions even in endgame areas. Players who prefer solo or cooperative play can now gather high-tier resources and complete objectives without threat of attack, while PvP hotspots remain available for those seeking conflict.
The update targets the dominant aerial meta by reducing Scout Ornithopter maneuverability and increasing heat penalties on rocket loadouts. At the same time, reinforced ground-based rocket launchers and additional anti-air tools will give infantry viable options to challenge airborne units. These changes are intended to diversify combat strategies and prevent a single approach from monopolizing encounters.

These adjustments aim to distribute endgame opportunities more equitably across all player types.
Funcom plans to roll out these changes in stages, accompanied by community QA sessions and feedback channels. While the roadmap outlines significant improvements, the studio emphasizes ongoing tuning and responsiveness to player experiences. This approach marks a notable shift toward a more inclusive and flexible sandbox MMO design.
