EA Sports FC 27’s The Grounds Needs to Be More Than a Walkable Clubs Lobby

EA Sports FC 27 will add The Grounds, a 100-player social space tied to Clubs, but its value will depend on progression, district design, and seasonal support.

Football games have long treated Clubs as a route from menus to matches. The Grounds attempts to turn that downtime into the feature: a shared social football playground for up to 100 players, where kickabouts, 1v1s, minigames and club-building sit in the same space.

EA Sports FC 27’s biggest new mode is directly connected to Clubs rather than being a separate street-football diversion. Players can meet football mentors, improve abilities and customize their identity on and off the pitch before teaming up with friends. The immediate upside is clear: finding teammates and getting a quick game could feel more natural than navigating successive menus. The risk is equally clear — walking between activities cannot become slower than simply queuing for a match.

EA has confirmed three districts representing different football cultures, while wider previews have identified them as Parkside, Montclair and Zieaza. Their names and visual themes matter less than their function. The first hands-on tests need to establish whether each district offers a distinct activity loop, whether they influence skill brackets or social grouping, and whether travel is quick enough to avoid turning Clubs into a commute. If every zone contains the same minigames and rewards, the open-world framing will amount to an elaborate lobby.

Mentors may be the more consequential part of the design. EA says they help players improve their abilities, suggesting that progression can come from hub activities as well as match results. That makes unlock pacing crucial: newcomers need meaningful upgrades in a short session, while established Clubs players should not be pushed into repetitive 1v1s or minigames just to remain competitive. EA has not detailed the reward economy or whether those activities are optional.

Likewise, live seasons must refresh more than cosmetics. New activities, goals, rewards and social reasons to revisit districts would give The Grounds a real retention loop; a rotating challenge list would not. The mode is limited to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2, so it is not a universal Clubs overhaul across every FC 27 version.

Before pre-ordering, look for practical proof that districts change how players meet and play, mentors do not create grind gates, and seasonal updates alter the space rather than its wardrobe.
