FFXIV 7.56 Makes Beastmaster the Priority, While Savage Opens Up

Patch 7.56 splits Final Fantasy XIV players into two clear paths: start a fresh level 1 Beastmaster built around captured familiars, or use the newly relaxed Savage rules to finish AAC Heavyweight Tier progression. It is a late-Dawntrail update designed to remove raid pressure while giving collectors and solo players a substantial new loop.

Beastmaster is a limited melee DPS job, meaning it does not function as a standard duty-finder job. It shares Monk and Samurai equipment, begins at level 1, and can initially reach level 50. Unlocking it requires one Disciple of War or Magic job at level 50 and completion of the main scenario quest surrounding Ultima Weapon. Its job quests begin in New Gridania and run for 10 quests after the unlock.

The job’s dedicated activity, The Crucible of the Unbroken, centers on capturing and developing familiars. Players summon creatures with combat horns, combine their abilities with Beastmaster attacks, and build stronger combos through TP. Character and familiar health are separate and do not regenerate automatically, while route choice and remaining HP contribute to a run’s score. Progress can be saved between playfields, treasure chests appear even after prior completions, and familiars can gain experience up to Bestiary rank 25. Temporary items, equipment pieces, and fodder provide further advantages inside the mode.

For story-focused players, four new main scenario quests bring the current Dawntrail cycle to its finale. Square Enix has not positioned 7.56 as a new raid-tier reset; instead, it makes the existing tier easier to clear. AAC Heavyweight Tier (Savage) no longer has weekly entry or loot restrictions, and the Echo is now active, allowing groups to farm clears without the former weekly lockout cadence.

PvP Series 12 runs until Patch 8.0, while unclaimed rewards from the previous series remain available until Series 12 ends. The update also includes platform bug fixes, including Nintendo Switch 2 fixes affecting New Game+, touchscreen inputs, portraits, face paint, and FFXIV Coin purchases. Beastmaster launches with several known UI, indicator, and ability-display issues, though its affected earring item is intended to work.
