FFXIV Mobile’s China Shutdown Leaves No Path to a Global Launch

Square Enix and Tencent have ended their Final Fantasy XIV Mobile licensing agreement, canceling its global release and closing the China service on September 30, 2026.

The immediate consequence is not merely a canceled expansion to new territories: Final Fantasy XIV Mobile has entered a wind-down period in which its remaining Chinese players can play, but cannot add accounts, buy items, or maintain paid services. The closure ends the mobile project after its June 2025 China launch and leaves no alternative global version on the schedule.

The shutdown timeline

Square Enix and Tencent terminated their licensing agreement for the game, bringing the China operation to an end on September 30, 2026. New registrations and all in-app purchases were disabled on July 17. That includes in-game currency, item-shop transactions, and premium subscriptions, so existing users cannot make further purchases during the final service window.

The game remains accessible until the September closure date, but its official web and store presence has been revised to reflect the cancellation, and downloads may be restricted in some regions. Customer support and the forums are scheduled to close on October 15, removing the final official channels shortly after the servers go offline.

What this means for players

Characters and purchased content are tied to a service that is ending rather than being moved into the main PC and console version of Final Fantasy XIV. The cancellation also means players outside China will not receive the planned global launch. The mobile game’s shutdown does not alter the ongoing service of the main MMO.

Players still able to log in should treat September 30 as the final date for gameplay and secure any account information they may need before support closes on October 15. They should not expect new purchases or newly created accounts to be available during the remaining period.
