Fields of Mistria 1.0 finally gives your Early Access save an ending

That eight-heart romance file, half-restored town, and museum stash you left behind are useful again. Fields of Mistria has reached Steam 1.0 after two years in Early Access, and NPC Studio has finally opened the systems that were visibly waiting for a finish line: marriage, optional children, Town Renown 100, the completed Town Repair questline, a completable Museum, and Steam achievements that can recognize progress already sitting in an old save.

The practical answer for returning players is simple: load the old file first. This is a full-release update built to extend existing farms rather than make everyone replay dozens of hours because a version number changed.

The new romance ceiling is where the real endgame begins

Romanceable NPCs can now reach 10 hearts, up from the former eight-heart cap. Those final two hearts unlock the 10-heart proposal events, which lead into wedding events and marriage across the game’s 12 candidates.

That is more meaningful than “marriage has been added” makes it sound. Early Access let players build relationships to the point where the game was plainly withholding the payoff. Now the loop has an endpoint. Players who dated several characters before choosing a spouse will see those other relationships move to Best Friend status after marriage.

Children arrive after marriage, but parenthood is optional. Good. Cozy games have spent years treating the wedding as a conveyor belt toward a compulsory nuclear-family epilogue; Fields of Mistria gives players the social conclusion without making that decision for them.

Renown 100 turns town restoration into a completed arc

Town Renown now reaches 100, and that extra runway supports the completed Town Repair questline. The new late-game path includes the Mistril Town Rank Event, the “Saturday Market Plaza” quest, and “Repair the Bell Tower.” Mistria’s restoration is finally a campaign players can complete instead of a pleasant Early Access promise parked behind a cap.

The Museum has received the same treatment. Additional sets and rewards now feed into a completion route, giving collectors a reason to stop treating every rare item as an investment in a future update. That future update is here.

The Saturday Market also matters more mechanically. Stillwell brings Mission Quests through his Mission Board, while Zorel sells Crystal Resonators and Song Crystals. These are small additions on paper, but they turn a social destination into another useful progression stop.

Your old save should unlock achievements on load

Steam achievements are retroactive and populate from existing save data after that save is loaded in 1.0. Players who already meet an achievement condition should receive the relevant unlock without starting over. If an achievement does not appear immediately, trigger the associated activity once more after loading: visit the relevant system, complete the next step, or advance the qualifying state.

Check Steam’s achievement page after loading the save. A fresh file is only necessary for players who specifically want a clean progression record without retroactive unlocks. Everyone else should let the game scan the work they already did.

What to do after updating

  • Load an existing Steam save and check for retroactive achievement pop-ups.
  • Raise a romanceable NPC from eight to 10 hearts to access proposal content.
  • Visit the Saturday Market to find Stillwell and Zorel’s new functions.
  • Resume Town Repair quests and push Renown toward the new cap of 100.
  • Review Museum sets before selling or storing collection items.

Full release is supposed to be the moment an Early Access game proves it knew where it was going. Fields of Mistria has made that case with the right priorities: it closes the relationship and restoration arcs players had already invested in, while respecting the saves that got them there.

Was this worth your time?
