Fields of Mistria 1.0 should be handled as a save-state update before it is treated as a new-content session. Back up the file you care about, decide whether you want retroactive Steam achievements, then load your strongest existing save. The full-release limits are now Town Renown 100 and NPC hearts 10, while the completed Town Repair route, marriage, children, museum completion, and Steam achievements all build on progress that older saves can already hold.
The most important numerical changes are simple, but they alter how a returning save should be routed. Town progression can now continue to Renown level 100, and relationship progression can continue to 10 hearts for NPCs. The former Early Access stopping points are no longer the end of either track.
The practical result is that a mature Early Access farm is valuable. It may already contain the renown, relationship, repair, and collection milestones that 1.0 now recognizes. Starting over remains valid for players who want a completely clean progression history, but it is inefficient for anyone whose priority is seeing the new full-release systems quickly.
Retroactive achievements are checked when an existing save is loaded. That makes the order of operations important: the decision about achievements should happen before opening the old file for the first time after updating.
Steam Overlay → Achievements after the save has been loaded.Warning: a new save does not import progression from an older farm. It so cannot produce retroactive awards for achievements tied to that older file’s renown, relationships, repairs, or museum progress. Use the established save first if historic achievement recognition is the priority.
An achievement that does not display the instant the farm loads is not automatically missing. Continue through a few normal actions, save if appropriate, and check the Steam overlay again. The retroactive system reads the current save data rather than requiring every qualifying milestone to be repeated from scratch.
Town Renown now has a ceiling of 100, which shifts late-game focus toward completing Mistria rather than treating the previous cap as a final endpoint. The central progression route is the completed Town Repair Questline, supported by museum progress and the newly added repair objectives.

On the first full 1.0 session, inspect the town quest boards and revisit major repair locations before committing a long stretch of days to gifts or farming. This identifies which restoration objectives are already open and prevents a common routing error: advancing romance while leaving the expanded town progression track untouched.
The Saturday Market Plaza and Bell Tower quests are part of the expanded restoration path, so they should be treated as active progression targets rather than optional scenery tasks. The Museum can also be completed in 1.0, making donations part of the same broader completion route.
Town-restoration progress controls several full-release milestones. Relationship level remains important for marriage, but hearts alone do not replace the town and museum work. A balanced save can advance all three tracks at once: fulfill repair objectives, deposit museum items, and maintain one focused romance route during the same seasonal loop.
The 1.0 update also adds the Mistril Town Rank Event. Treat it as a marker that the Renown track has moved beyond its former Early Access endpoint. Continue clearing available town-side objectives instead of assuming a farm that previously reached its progression ceiling has exhausted the town content.

Ultimate Guide Strategy Guide + Weekly Pro Tips
NPC hearts now reach 10, and the top of that route contains the new proposal and wedding material. There are 12 marriage candidates, but concentrating on one candidate remains the shortest route to marriage on a single save.
Returning players with a candidate at the previous heart ceiling should check that relationship immediately after loading their 1.0 file. The raised cap can make additional heart events, dating progression, and the new proposal route available without rebuilding the relationship from its earlier state.

Distributing relationship resources across the entire cast produces more parallel heart progress, but it delays the first proposal route. That approach fits players who are collecting events across several characters. A save intended to reach marriage efficiently should instead keep one candidate as the primary gift and dialogue target.
Marriage has dedicated event content at the end of the 10-heart route. Children are then part of the family system rather than a separate early-game unlock, so there is no benefit in abandoning town repairs or museum completion to chase the family route immediately. An established save with strong town progress and a high-heart partner is the most efficient file for seeing the major 1.0 additions together.
Steam achievements are new in 1.0, but old progress can count. When an existing save is loaded after updating, the game checks the data stored in that file and awards achievements that match completed requirements. This applies to the file being opened; it does not merge milestones from multiple farms into one achievement check.
The cleanest procedure is to load the established farm once, let the retroactive check complete, and then continue the 1.0 progression from that file. Repeating an old milestone is only useful when the save did not meet its requirement at the time it was checked.
This order preserves the value of old progress while directing the next sessions toward the content that 1.0 newly completes: Mistria’s restoration route, the museum, the 10-heart romance path, marriage, children, and the achievement record tied to the save already in use.
