Final Fantasy VII Revelation’s DLC Plan Changes the Best Edition

The Highwind is more than a nostalgic vehicle in Revelation: it is the backbone of world traversal, letting the party reach regions from the air and make quick parachute-style descents. That scale matters for the final chapter of the Remake trilogy, which must bring Cloud’s fight with Sephiroth, the Meteor threat, and the rampaging Weapons to a close without reducing its world to a sequence of corridors.

Square Enix’s State of Play reveal also showed dynamic character switching during exploration, so players can immediately take control of a different party member while moving through the world. Combat retains the series’ action-and-command hybrid, with Tactical Mode and party-based commands, while Cid Highwind joins the playable roster. A grappling gun adds another layer to traversal, allowing the party to reach rooftops and elevated vantage points. Queen’s Blood returns with new opponents and challenges, plus a Red XIII-focused storyline.

The key buying decision is whether to bundle the post-launch stories now. Revelation’s base game contains the conclusion to the Remake trilogy’s main narrative. The paid Story Expansion Pass instead covers two character-focused follow-ups: Sephiroth and Vincent & the Turks. Both are planned for release between winter 2027 and spring 2028, though neither has an exact date or announced standalone price. Each expansion will also be sold separately, so players who want the main ending first can wait.

Premium Edition is the straightforward bundle for players committed to both DLC packs: it includes the Story Expansion Pass, the Reclaimant Choker and Survival Set, and 24 hours of early access on Steam. The Reclaimant Choker slightly restores HP after enemies are defeated. Preorders also include Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia. The $349.99 Collector’s Edition adds the pass alongside an art book, mini soundtrack, steelbook, Magic: The Gathering promo card, in-game items, and a Cloud, Zack, and Sephiroth statue.

PC players can choose Steam, Epic Games Store, or Microsoft Store; the April 8 launch is simultaneous with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The DLC timetable remains subject to change.
