Anyone waiting to pre-register for an iOS or Android release outside China should stop: there will be no global version of Final Fantasy XIV Mobile. The cancellation also closes the door on a second chance for the mobile adaptation after its China launch in June 2025.
Tencent and Square Enix have ended their licensing agreement for Final Fantasy XIV Mobile’s Chinese Edition following amicable negotiations. The companies cited adjustments to business operations and changes in the market environment. LightSpeed Studios developed the smartphone adaptation, also known as Ultima Fantasy XIV: Crystal World, as a mobile take on Square Enix’s long-running MMORPG.
The wind-down has already begun. New account registration and all in-game top-ups were suspended on July 17, 2026. That means no new players can join, while existing players can no longer buy premium currency, items, subscriptions, or other microtransactions.

Service ends on September 30, 2026. The game’s servers and official website will go offline at that point, ending log-in access and leaving characters and progress unavailable. Shutdown notices list slightly different times-11 AM UTC+8 or 12:00-but agree on the September 30 closure date.
Player account data, character information, and related data for mainland China users will be deleted after the servers close, subject to applicable law and Tencent user agreements, including China’s Personal Information Protection Law. Forums and customer support are scheduled to remain available until October 15, 2026.

The practical outcome is final: existing China players have until September 30 to use the service without further purchases, while prospective international players should not expect a delayed launch or revived pre-registration campaign.
