The old housing struggle is familiar: a player finds the perfect plot or furnishing idea, then runs into menus and editing tools that demand outside guides before the decorating can even begin. Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold is targeting that friction directly, making its housing changes more important than another routine interface polish.
At Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest Berlin, director Naoki Yoshida said Square Enix plans two major housing-system overhauls during the 8.0 patch series. The first is focused on housing UI accessibility, with Yoshida pointing to hands-on research into World of Warcraft’s newer housing system. The second overhaul has been confirmed but not detailed.
The WoW comparison should not be read as a promise that Final Fantasy XIV will copy another MMO’s housing rules. The practical goal is clearer: make browsing plots, furnishings, and interior options easier; make decorating controls more navigable without treating community tutorials as required reading; and make ongoing house management less intimidating for players who are not expert designers.

That is a meaningful shift for a system where the creativity of player homes has long outpaced the friendliness of the tools used to build them. Better menus and clearer editing workflows could lower the entry barrier for new homeowners while giving veteran decorators more time to create rather than wrestle with setup. It will not solve housing availability by itself, but usability is the part Square Enix can improve for every player who gets through the door.
Evercold is also bringing the Level 90 tank job Bastion, while Patch 8.01 will introduce Beyond the Lifestream, an eight-player raid series themed around Final Fantasy VII Remake. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is set for August 4, 2026.

The verdict: Evercold’s housing UI overhaul is the expansion’s most quietly consequential promise-provided Square Enix turns the World of Warcraft research into tools players can understand at first touch.
