Give every prospective recruit one inexpensive gift, use the inn to focus support, and protect materials and gold until recruitment requirements are visible. This early routine prevents the most common stalls: high support with insufficient Renown, missing quest gates, and crafting away an item a recruit needs.
Treat your first free hub periods as recruitment setup, not as spare time between battles. Speak to every available recruit, give each one a first gift, record their requirements, then spend the rest of your time on inn meals, deadline-sensitive Paralogues, the game’s optional side-story missions, subquests, and newly opened mines. That sequence builds the resources that matter across the early game: support, Renown, recruitment items, gold, and weapon materials.
The trap is spending early gold and rare goods on refinements before seeing what prospective allies demand. A weapon upgrade can wait; a missed Paralogue deadline, an 8,000G recruitment payment, or a consumed quest item can delay a recruit for a long stretch of the campaign.

Set Up Every Recruitment Lead Immediately
Recruitment begins with contact. Talk to every visible prospective ally when the hub opens up, then give each character a gift. That first gift unlocks the Recruit dialogue and starts the relationship work that follows. Use inexpensive gifts for this initial pass; the goal is access, not maximum support growth from a single item.
Once the Recruit dialogue is available, check the full condition set before committing more resources. Fortune’s Weave recruitment can require support, Renown, a specific material or item, a gold payment, a route quest, or a Paralogue. A character with enough support still stays unavailable if their Renown threshold or item request is incomplete.
- Record the required support level for each recruit you want.
- Record the Renown threshold before prioritizing gifts or meals.
- Mark any requested goods and keep them out of crafting stock.
- Reserve gold for characters with payment requirements.
- Check whether a route quest or Paralogue is part of the condition.
Dante is the clearest reason to maintain a gold reserve: his recruitment requires 8,000G. Do not spend down to zero on optional early purchases and assume battle rewards will cover every later request in time.
Use the Inn as Your Main Early Support Engine
Shared meals at the inn are the most reliable early non-combat support activity. Whenever a priority recruit is available, use meals to push their relationship instead of spreading the activity evenly through the entire cast. The inn gives you repeatable, targeted progress while recruitment requirements are still modest enough to plan around.
After the first gift opens recruitment dialogue, match later gifts to that character’s preferences. Preferred gifts deliver better relationship gains, so save them for allies whose support thresholds are high or whose recruitment conditions are otherwise close to complete. Giving rare presents randomly across the cast produces less value than finishing one important requirement at a time.

More support options open as the settlement develops. Training together, stage shows at the theater, temple services, and Thermea bath visits can all advance relationships. These activities are useful once available, but the inn remains the dependable early baseline because it arrives sooner and lets you direct progress toward specific recruits.
- First priority: Give each potential recruit one inexpensive gift.
- Second priority: Use inn meals on recruits with the highest support requirements.
- Third priority: Use preferred gifts to finish a near-complete support target.
- Later priority: Add training, theater, temple, and Thermea activities when they unlock.
Link attacks and support actions in battle also add relationship progress, but they are supplementary for an early non-combat route. Build the recruitment foundation in the hub so combat support gains become a bonus rather than the only way forward.
Build Renown Alongside Story Progression
Renown is a global progression resource, and recruitment thresholds make it one of the easiest requirements to underestimate. Some characters can join at Renown 3, while others need Renown 10. Raising support for a character who needs Renown 10 before your route has reached that threshold leaves you with a completed relationship track and no recruitment result.
Earn Renown through main missions, subquests, Paralogues, route activities, and Audiences with the Gods when they become available. The efficient route is to combine those goals with normal advancement: clear subquests while moving through story areas, then complete available Paralogues before their deadlines. This avoids a separate Renown grind and protects optional recruitment opportunities tied to side objectives.
Renown also supports Blessings, the temple-based upgrades that improve broader progression. Spend early temple investment on permanent or widely useful upgrades that help the whole route. Narrow bonuses can be worthwhile later, once your roster and preferred combat approach are established, but early Renown has more value when it keeps several recruitments and progression systems open at once.
Support progression carries across save-file routes, making early relationship investment valuable if you plan to explore more than one path. Recruitment requirements still change by route, however. The Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda Flame Lord paths can ask for different support or Renown levels, so do not apply a checklist from one route blindly to another.
Mine Materials Before You Start Refining Gear
Mines are the dependable early source of smithing materials. Each mine visit should include every crystal deposit before you leave, because those crystals provide guaranteed resources for equipment refinement. Ordinary overworld pickups help, but they are less dependable when a weapon upgrade or recruitment condition needs a specific stockpile.

Do not treat all materials as crafting-only currency. Fortune’s Weave uses some goods for recruitment requests, creating direct competition between a refinement and a new ally. Keep unusual materials separate until you have reviewed current recruitment objectives.
- Visit newly accessible mines early instead of saving all exploration for later.
- Break every crystal deposit before leaving a mine.
- Refine weapons for characters you expect to field repeatedly.
- Delay expensive work on temporary weapons and uncertain recruits.
- Hold at least one copy of any unusual item a prospective ally requests.
Several recruitment goods are easy to misallocate because they also look like ordinary collection items. Paradise Fish is associated with Lake Brontes in Saveilon, Glirmosa can be found around Mount Orgus Trail and similar areas, and Giant’s Meat is tied to Sand-Shadow Fort. Iron Swords can also be part of recruitment requests. Keep these items reserved until the relevant character is recruited or their objective is cleared.
The early material bottleneck is about timing rather than total inventory. You can empty your stock into one early refinement, still have plenty of common ore left, and yet lack the exact request item needed to complete an available recruit.
Clear Recruitment Conditions in the Right Order
Most recruits follow the same broad chain: meet them, give the first gift, raise support, reach the required Renown, complete their personal request or optional objective, then return to finalize recruitment. The order matters because it tells you what is currently blocking progress.
If Renown is missing, prioritize story advancement, subquests, and Paralogues. If support is missing, direct meals and preferred gifts toward that character. If an item is missing, stop refining with unusual materials and visit the relevant area or mine. If the blocker is a route quest or Paralogue, handle it before pushing the calendar forward and risking a deadline.
Keep recruitment goals narrow in the first major combat arcs. Target the characters who fit your intended roster rather than attempting to finish every available condition at once. This gives your inn meals, gifts, materials, and gold a clear destination, while still preserving enough flexibility for route-specific changes later.
A Clean Early Hub Routine
Use this priority order whenever Fortune’s Weave gives you time away from the battlefield:
- Talk to newly available prospective recruits and give each one a first gift.
- Inspect their support, Renown, item, gold, quest, and Paralogue requirements.
- Use the inn on the recruit whose support requirement is currently the highest or closest to completion.
- Advance story missions while finishing accessible subquests for Renown.
- Complete available Paralogues before their deadlines.
- Explore newly opened mines and collect every crystal deposit.
- Reserve unusual materials, recruitment goods, and enough gold for known payments.
- Invest Renown at temples in broadly useful Blessings after recruitment thresholds are accounted for.
- Refine equipment only for the core units you expect to keep fielding.
This routine keeps support, Renown, crafting, and recruitment moving together. By the time a recruit’s support condition is met, you should also have the Renown, money, materials, and optional objectives ready to bring them into the roster rather than beginning another round of hub chores.
