Game Pass September lineup builds toward Dragonwilds on Sept. 15

Xbox Game Pass adds RuneScape: Dragonwilds on September 15, following a staggered early-September lineup led by SpeedRunners 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Six dated additions arrive before RuneScape: Dragonwilds, which makes September’s first Game Pass wave feel less like one giant dump and more like a rolling install plan. The key date is still September 15: Jagex’s RuneScape survival spin-off leaves Early Access in version 1.0 and hits Game Pass the same day. Until then, the first half of the month gives subscribers a clean runway to pick off new arrivals one by one instead of trying to sample everything in a single weekend.

Dragonwilds is the payoff, but the first week is where the queue starts

RuneScape: Dragonwilds is a standalone co-op survival game in the RuneScape universe, set on Ashenfall and built around the familiar loop that makes this kind of release easy to lose a week to: gather resources, build up a base, survive the region’s threats, then do it all again with better gear and a little more confidence. It can be played solo or in co-op, and Jagex has already said more than 1 million players jumped in during Early Access.

The September 15 release is the important part here. That is when Dragonwilds officially launches in version 1.0 and enters Xbox Game Pass on day one. For Game Pass subscribers, the confirmed platforms are Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Jagex has also tied the 1.0 launch to the Scorned Wilderness update and Umbral Sands content, which gives the release a little more weight than a simple subscription drop. This is not filler at the back of the month; it is the anchor release the rest of the early schedule is building toward.

Your Sept. 3-10 Game Pass plan, day by day

The immediate queue starts with Shelldiver, already available from September 1, but the useful planning window for most subscribers really begins on September 3 and runs through the double drop on September 10. If you want the simplest way to handle this wave, here is the clean version.

  • September 3: Start with SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed. It is the first major new addition in this stretch, and it is available on Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This is the one to install first if you want to play something new immediately rather than wait for the mid-month headline.
  • September 4: Add Dice a Million to the queue. It is listed for Xbox Series X|S and Cloud Gaming, and this is the ideal “second install” day because it lands right after SpeedRunners 2 instead of colliding with the busier end of the week.
  • September 5 to September 7: Treat this as catch-up time. If you installed SpeedRunners 2 on Wednesday and Dice a Million on Thursday, this is the window to actually play them before the bigger-name arrival on Monday. It is also the smart place to clean up storage if your console or PC library is already bloated.
  • September 8: Make room for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. No download sizes have been detailed for this wave, so there is no point pretending anybody has a perfect storage forecast, but this is still the day to reserve bandwidth and clear space if Cold War is on your shortlist.
  • September 9: Use this as a buffer day. If Cold War is your priority, finish that install and test whether you actually want to keep it parked on your drive before another pair of releases lands the next morning.
  • September 10: Prioritize The Royal Writ and Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage. This is the second real checkpoint in the early-month schedule because it is the only confirmed double drop before Dragonwilds. If you like fighting games, Virtua Fighter is the obvious first click. If you want variety instead, The Royal Writ gives the lineup a different lane entirely.

That schedule matters because September is not asking you to react to one overloaded release day. It is asking you to make a few small decisions every couple of days, then keep September 15 open for the one launch that clearly carries the most weight.

What is worth starting now, and what can wait

Start immediately: SpeedRunners 2 is the easiest early recommendation simply because it arrives first in the Sept. 3-10 run and gives you something fresh to play while the rest of the wave fills in. Worth lining up next: Dice a Million, because it arrives on its own day and does not have to compete with another same-day drop. Save room for later: Black Ops Cold War, because September 8 sits close enough to September 10 that you do not want it clogging your week if you are trying to sample everything.

The two dates that matter most are September 10 and September 15. September 10 is the last crowded stop before the big one, with The Royal Writ and Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage landing together. September 15 is the payoff: RuneScape: Dragonwilds moves out of Early Access, launches in 1.0, and joins Game Pass on day one.

The smart move is to prep for Sept. 15 now

Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass subscribers should be thinking one step ahead. Microsoft has laid out the release dates, but it has not detailed preload timing, download sizes, or rollout quirks for Dragonwilds or the rest of Wave 1. That makes the practical advice pretty simple: install the games you know you want between September 3 and September 10, keep some breathing room on your system, and treat September 15 as the date this whole early-month schedule has been quietly setting up.

In other words, September’s first Game Pass wave is not about one chaotic content pile. It is a staggered runway, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds is the landing.

Was this worth your time?
