G-SYNC

NVIDIA's variable refresh rate tech that syncs the display to the GPU to eliminate screen tearing and stutter.

G-SYNC synchronizes the laptop display refresh rate to the GPU actual frame rate in real time. By matching the two, it removes the screen tearing you get without sync and the stutter or lag you get with traditional V-Sync.

On laptops, G-SYNC typically works through the panel variable refresh range and is most effective when the discrete GPU drives the display directly, which is why it often depends on a MUX switch or Advanced Optimus being in discrete mode.

Why it matters when buying

Most quality gaming-laptop panels support G-SYNC or the compatible VESA Adaptive-Sync standard. To get it you usually need the laptop in discrete-GPU (MUX) mode, so pair it with a MUX-equipped machine for tear-free, smooth gameplay.
