A new lead, but not the end of Kratos
Santa Monica Studio confirmed the PS5 release date during San Diego Comic-Con 2026, following the game’s June reveal. Laufey centers on Faye, also known as Laufey, Kratos’ late wife, in an afterlife setting called the Everywhen. The premise moves the franchise away from Kratos’ viewpoint without treating the game as a disconnected side story.
Creative lead Cory Barlog said Laufey continues what came before while preparing what comes next. The studio has also confirmed that another, Kratos-led God of War game is planned after Laufey and will continue the narrative. That positions the February release as a bridge in the wider roadmap, not a replacement for the established protagonist.
