GTA 6’s Six-Star Police System Makes Escapes About Identity, Not Just Speed

Grand Theft Auto VI is set to expand wanted levels to six stars, with police tracking faces, clothing, vehicles, CCTV sightings and Jason and Lucia’s association.

GTA 6’s key change is not simply restoring the sixth wanted star that GTA V removed: escaping is built around limiting what law enforcement learns before a chase becomes a full identification problem. A hollow star can signal that police are responding to a crime without yet knowing who committed it, giving Jason and Lucia a window to leave before a local incident turns into a targeted hunt.

The HUD is designed to show the information police hold. A silhouette represents a physical description, a clothes-hanger icon points to known clothing, a camera marks CCTV exposure, and vehicle and couple indicators can identify the car used and connect the two protagonists. That makes masks, a wardrobe change, a new vehicle, and splitting Jason and Lucia up practical escape tools rather than cosmetic role-play. A cap may alter a physical description while police still retain clothing information, so a partial disguise is not necessarily a clean reset.

Witnesses and alarms matter because officers must first be alerted. Civilians can call 911, while guards, police line of sight, and cameras can create the evidence trail. Stealth so has a clearer purpose: avoid being seen, avoid a call being placed, and leave the search area before police assemble enough identifying details. Once heat rises through all six stars, the intended pressure shifts toward a wider manhunt; military or FIB-style intervention, helicopters, roadblocks, and elite responses are expected at the top end, though Rockstar has not detailed the final law-enforcement roster.

Combat may also be less about emptying a room. Enemies can target arms and legs to incapacitate, while suppression fire can pin players behind cover and create space for an escape. That pairs with the Criminal Profile, a behavior-tracking system framed as a successor to Red Dead Redemption 2‘s Honor: defending yourself or returning fire need not carry the same weight as needless escalation. There is no confirmed civilian-sparing score, but avoiding witnesses, police casualties, and uncontrolled firefights can still reduce immediate heat and limit what authorities learn.

Rockstar has not published a full mechanics breakdown, so the exact six-star triggers and profile consequences remain open. When GTA 6 arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, treat every crime as an evidence problem first and a driving problem second.
