At its IOI Showcase celebrating 25 years of Agent 47, IO Interactive announced a slate of new features and expansions for the World of Assassination trilogy. Fans can look forward to a star-studded Elusive Target challenge starring Mads Mikkelsen, an all-new two-player co-op mode, native iOS and Mac support, PlayStation VR2 compatibility, and even a fully licensed tabletop board game. The announcements underscore IO Interactive’s commitment to evolving the franchise across platforms and playstyles.
From June 6 to July 6, 2025, players will face off against Mads Mikkelsen’s iconic villain Le Chiffre in Hitman World of Assassination. Best known for his turn as Le Chiffre in the James Bond universe, Mikkelsen brings a new layer of tension to the Elusive Target program. This limited-time assignment also ties into IOI’s upcoming James Bond prequel, First Light, offering cross-game unlocks—players who eliminate “The Banker” will earn an exclusive 007 suit in First Light.
One of the most requested features from the community is finally coming: cooperative stealth gameplay. IO Interactive confirmed that a two-player co-op mode is in development, allowing Agents to team up on favorite maps or new missions yet to be revealed. According to the dev team, cooperative play retains the trademark sandbox freedom—each player can approach objectives independently, coordinate distractions, and share intel in real time.
In summer 2025, Hitman World of Assassination will debut natively on iOS, iPadOS, and Mac with Apple silicon optimization, delivering touchscreen and trackpad controls alongside controller support. Simultaneously, PlayStation VR2 owners will get a first-person, fully immersive VR experience featuring motion-tracked weapons and intuitive stealth mechanics. Existing PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and the upcoming Switch 2 versions remain fully supported.
IO Interactive has partnered with MOOD Publishing to bring Agent 47’s world to tabletops. The Hitman Board Game adapts the series’ trademark social stealth, creative problem-solving, and sandbox level design into a competitive 1–4 player experience. Players will assume different roles—assassins, targets, or informants—as they jockey for intel, set traps, and attempt the perfect hit. Release date and pricing will be announced later this year.
Since its 2016 reboot, the World of Assassination trilogy has sold over 25 million units and amassed more than 80 million registered players worldwide. Regular content drops—ranging from Elusive Targets and seasonal events to the newly introduced Freelancer mode—have kept engagement high. These latest initiatives signal IO Interactive’s intent to diversify its audience by blending traditional stealth gameplay with cooperative, mobile, VR, and analog formats.
With the trilogy’s core mechanics firmly in place, IO Interactive appears poised to explore fresh territories. The co-op mode could pave the way for expanded multiplayer offerings, while the board game may open doors for other cross-media adaptations. Mobile and VR support further broadens the franchise’s reach, inviting both long-time fans and newcomers to experience Hitman in new ways. As 2025 approaches, the community can expect periodic updates on development progress, detailed previews, and opportunities to shape the next phase of Agent 47’s journey.
