Hytale Update 6 Makes Hardcore Runs Far More Social—and Mods Easier to Find

Hytale’s Early Access Update 6 adds configurable Hardcore worlds, death-linked Spectator Mode, and its first in-game Mod Browser.

Sandbox survival games have often treated death as a clean break: respawn and continue, or lose everything and leave the run behind. Hytale Update 6 changes that equation by making elimination part of the session. Players who exhaust their allotted lives drop their possessions, become invisible and intangible, and enter Spectator Mode rather than returning through a normal respawn.

That system arrived on August 27 as part of a broader Early Access update from Hypixel Studios. Hardcore is not one fixed permadeath setting. Worlds and servers can use Permadeath for one life per player, Three Strikes for three lives each, Nine Lives for a shared world pool of nine, or Soulbound, where a single death ends the run for everybody. “Off” is also available as the non-Hardcore setting, explaining why the update is sometimes described as having four Hardcore modes rather than five presets.

The options make multiplayer risk more deliberate. A small group can run individual three-life campaigns, while Nine Lives turns every mistake into a collective resource problem. Soulbound is the harsher proposition: even the most cautious player is exposed to the team’s weakest moment. Once dead, spectators can switch between surviving players or fly their camera freely, allowing friends to observe, coach, or provide commentary without affecting the run.

The other consequential addition is the first version of Hytale’s in-game Mod Browser. Players can browse, install, and update mods without leaving the client, with featured, popular, and recently updated listings, category filters, and searches by name or description. Mod pages include screenshots, download counts, and supported game versions. A 0.6.2 hotfix also addressed a practical install conflict: the browser now identifies a same-named file blocking installation in the Mods folder.

Update 6 also expands Creative tools with colour tooling, palette presets, hard collision, and a maximum build limit of 16 million blocks. Those creator-facing changes matter because easier mod distribution is more useful when building and server tools give creators more to distribute.
