Immortal Empires Is Becoming a $9 Entry Point in September

Total War: Warhammer III’s Immortal Empires campaign will unlock through Lords of the End Times content on September 24, 2026, without requiring any base game ownership.

The trilogy’s enormous sandbox campaign is no longer tied to buying three full strategy games. Immortal Empires combines content from Total War: Warhammer I, II, and III into one grand campaign map, but the purchase rules have steadily become less restrictive — and the next change is the biggest yet.

What to buy for Immortal Empires now

The simplest current route is Total War: Warhammer III. Owning the third game grants access to Immortal Empires, while ownership of the first two games and their DLC adds their associated races, Legendary Lords, and other content to the mode. Players do not need to buy the entire trilogy merely to enter the campaign.

There is also no reason for existing Warhammer I or II owners to repurchase games they already have. On supported storefronts, ownership of either earlier title can grant Immortal Empires access in Warhammer III, alongside The Lost God prologue. The key distinction is access versus roster: owning a game or DLC unlocks its playable material, not just the campaign map.

September removes the base-game requirement

On September 24, 2026, Lords of the End Times will make Immortal Empires available through an individual piece of that new content, even for players who own none of the three base games. The lowest standalone entry is estimated at about $9 or £7.49, making it the cheapest route for anyone willing to wait.

Lords of the End Times is built around new playable characters and factions including Nagash, Boris Todbringer, the Glottkin, and Thanquol with Boneripper. Its Immortal Empires access does not include Warhammer III’s separate Realms of Chaos campaign. The expansion’s broader package is set to cover 14 factions and 24 Legendary Lords, before free additions such as Bretonnia.

Buy Warhammer III for immediate, full-game access; keep Warhammer I or II if already owned; or wait for Lords of the End Times if the goal is the lowest-cost Immortal Empires entry.
