Jump Ship

Every time a new space game makes headlines, I brace myself—will it finally deliver the living, breathing universe we crave, or collapse under the weight of empty worlds and loading screens? Keepsake Games’ debut, Jump Ship, turned heads during Steam Next Fest, and the demo’s strong engagement suggests it might be the real deal.
At its core, Jump Ship is about split-second decisions in a tight-knit crew. Up to four players each man critical stations—shields, engines, weapons, life support—rallying around an intuitive UI that overlays system diagrams without ever dropping you into a loading screen. When meteoroid strikes or enemy skirmishes occur, your crew reroutes power, patches hull breaches, and redirects thrusters on a single screen.
Planetary excursions maintain that momentum. You deploy a jetpack and scanner from your ship’s cargo bay, gather resources, and upload data directly to your onboard terminals. Combat zones, hazards, and environmental puzzles unfold in the same seamless session, so you never lose the co-op rhythm that makes each mission feel alive.

Keepsake Games has been transparent about next steps. They plan to introduce a credit-based persistence system, letting you convert mission loot into unlocks without undermining the roguelite loop. Early Access will also expand the tutorial suite, add text chat (with voice on the radar), and expose more graphical settings to suit varied PC setups.
Key features like Endless Mode and deeper progression tracks won’t launch alongside Early Access. If the core loop doesn’t evolve steadily, there’s a risk players might move on. That said, the demo’s polish and the team’s open communication suggest they know which features to prioritize post-launch.
Many space titles promise boundless galaxies but fumble on cohesion and replayability. Jump Ship anchors its scope to tight, unpredictable teamwork—imagine the bridge tension of FTL blending with the camaraderie of Deep Rock Galactic, all set in a contiguous universe reminiscent of No Man’s Sky without the loading screens. If you’ve been longing for a genuinely shared sci-fi adventure, this could be it.
