I had barely finished checking the Classic store’s 300 RP chroma tags before the problem became obvious: players who already owned skins such as Tundra Hunter Warwick or Exiled Morgana were being asked to pay again for their Classic recolors. Riot has now scrapped that approach, removing one of the sharpest monetization complaints around League of Legends Classic.
The new rule is tied to ownership of the modern version of a skin. If that skin is already in an account’s collection, its matching Classic Chroma should be granted at no extra cost. Players do not need to have previously purchased the chroma to qualify; modern skin ownership is the deciding factor.
Players who paid for a Classic Chroma before the reversal and also own the corresponding modern skin are due an RP refund. Riot’s statement describes this as a specific entitlement correction, rather than a standard discretionary refund request. The reimbursement should return RP, the currency used for the purchase.

The important caveat is how the item was bought. An individually purchased chroma is the cleanest case to check in purchase history. Chroma packs and other bundles can follow different refund handling, even when an included chroma would otherwise qualify. Riot’s normal policies distinguish stand-alone content from bundles, which may require Player Support review instead of an automatic reversal.
Affected players should confirm they own the modern skin, inspect their League client collection for the newly granted Classic Chroma, then review purchase history for the RP adjustment. Standard refund windows and refund tokens still exist for ordinary purchases, but they are not the core issue in this rollback.

Verdict: this is the right correction — Classic cosmetics should recognize skin ownership already paid for, not turn nostalgia into a second checkout.
