The Realm(s) of Possibilities
HEXWORKS, a CI Games studio, has pulled back the curtain on their highly anticipated dark-fantasy action-RPG Lords of the Fallen with a fresh, twenty-minute Extended Gameplay Presentation video.
The game, set to reboot the franchise and launch on October 13, has been teasing fans with glimpses of its sprawling, semi-open world and the haunting environments players will journey through. And here’s a twist – players aren’t just traversing one world, but two.
Thanks to the game’s unique dual-realm mechanism, survival extends beyond the living realm of Axiom into the undead realm known as Umbral. Two realms, two lives, and plenty of treasures to plunder.
Intriguing? Definitely. Easy? Not even close.
Dual-World Mechanics and Cooperative Play
In Lords of the Fallen, every main area connects to at least two others, so players have a say in their path. Then there’s the whole living and undead thing. Using the Umbral Lamp, players can hop between realms, but at the cost of one of their two lives.
Death in one realm means resurrection in the other, right where you perished. A second chance of sorts, but don’t expect it to be a walk in the park.
Want a friend to join in the torment? Lords of the Fallen has you covered with a seamlessly integrated co-op feature.
You and a pal (or a random player, if you’re feeling adventurous) can battle together, and you can even create your own in-game resting points with rare items.
Revamped Combat System and New Gameplay Elements
This reboot is more than just a fresh coat of paint. Lords of the Fallen showcases a completely overhauled combat system that blends close, magic, and distant attacks into a seamless dance of destruction.
You can assign four additional abilities for immediate use, resulting in faster, more fluid battles, and a chance to create almost endless combos.
Studio head Saul Gascon expressed his excitement about revealing the extended gameplay and the team’s passion for the increasingly popular dark fantasy action-RPG genre.
He seems especially eager for players to dive into the unique dual-world mechanics when the game releases in October.
A Pre-Order Worth Consideration?
Powered by Unreal Engine 5 and now available for pre-orders on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, Lords of the Fallen certainly seems to be promising a brutal, yet immersive experience.
But, will it deliver?
The new video, filled with gameplay details and commentary, surely sets the stage for what could be an epic reboot.
Yet, one can’t help but wonder how these elements will come together. The dual-world mechanics are an ambitious addition, and the revamped combat system might be a hit or miss depending on the execution.
For now, we wait and keep our fingers crossed that this dark fantasy tale hits the mark.
October’s not that far away, and we’ll have the chance to defeat the demon god Adyr and decide whether dying twice is as much fun as it sounds. Until then, you can watch the Extended Gameplay Presentation here.
