Marathon’s June 2 Wipe Makes One Thing Clear: Spend Your Hoard

Marathon’s first major seasonal wipe arrives with Season 2: Nightfall on June 2, and the practical message is brutally simple: progression that can be spent, used, or converted before reset should not be sitting in storage. Bungie is clearing the board for Runner levels, ranked standings, faction advancement, inventory and vault contents, plus much of the game’s currency economy. This is the extraction-shooter contract in plain language: the season ends, and your advantage expires.

The Reset Reaches Further Than a Ranked Ladder

Runner Level returns to zero. Ranked Level returns to zero. Faction levels and their related upgrades are also wiped, removing the tier benefits accumulated during the season. Players will begin Season 2 rebuilding the systems that govern access, power and competitive position.

The more consequential part is the material reset. Inventory and vault contents are cleared, alongside many currencies. Anyone treating a vault as a retirement account has misread the game’s seasonal structure. Gear that never leaves storage has no value once Nightfall starts.

This is why Bungie has temporarily increased loot access and opened up endgame opportunities before the wipe. Cryo Archive and Vault Breaker activity matters in this final stretch because the point is no longer long-term accumulation. It is using the current season’s resources to take higher-value runs, test loadouts, and push progression while that progression still exists.

What Survives Is Mostly Identity, Not Power

Unlocked factions remain available after the reset, even though their levels and upgrades do not. Cosmetics also carry over, including unlocked and redeemed styles, titles and emblems. Rewards Pass progress is preserved for Season 2 as well.

Two currencies survive: LUX and SILK. That distinction is deliberate. Marathon is preserving the purchases and status markers players expect to retain while removing the stockpiled resources that can distort a fresh seasonal economy. The clean slate applies to competitive and gameplay advantage; the permanent collection remains intact.

The Final Days Are for Spending, Not Saving

The sensible end-of-season plan is compact. Use inventory gear rather than preserving a “perfect” kit for later. Empty the vault through runs that help complete remaining goals. Spend currencies that do not carry over. Finish Rewards Pass progress, since it survives. Claim and redeem cosmetic items, titles and emblems before the reset window closes.

From May 21 through June 2, players also receive one Cryo Archive Sponsored Kit each day through in-game mail. These kits are designed for the exact period when hoarding stops making sense. Take them into Tau Ceti or Dire Marsh, use the added access to press into higher-risk content, and treat every successful extraction as a chance to convert temporary resources into season-end value.

The Real Test Starts After the Wipe

Seasonal wipes can keep an extraction shooter competitive, but only if rebuilding feels like a new campaign rather than repeating a checklist under a different date stamp. Marathon’s first reset will show whether its Runner and faction progression creates meaningful early-season decisions or simply restores the grind that players already finished once.

June 2 is the line. Before then, the priority is extracting value from temporary gear, currencies and upgrades. After it, the priority becomes seeing whether Nightfall gives the fresh economy enough new pressure to justify wiping the old one.
