There is a familiar launch-week frustration in buying a disc only to discover it is little more than a download key in plastic. Marvel’s Wolverine clears the more important bar: Insomniac Games’ completed 1.0 build is going to PS5 disc production, meaning the base game is present on the physical release rather than waiting entirely on a server.
“Gone gold” means the version destined for manufacturing is finished. It gives Sony the build needed to press discs and prepare the PlayStation Store release before Wolverine launches exclusively on PS5 on September 15, 2026. The milestone arrived on August 21, leaving just over three weeks for production, distribution, certification work, and the final pre-launch update.
That does not mean the disc will be the best or final version on day one. Insomniac is encouraging players to download a launch-day patch, which will cover late polish and bug fixes completed after the disc master was locked. No patch size, preload date, install size, or exact version number has been announced. Disc owners should therefore expect a playable base install, but should connect their PS5 before starting if they want the most current release build.

For collectors and preservation-minded buyers, that distinction matters. A physical copy has a real 1.0 game on it; it is not a promise that every launch-day improvement will work offline. Digital buyers, meanwhile, will need to wait for Sony to set preload timing and will download both the base game and any available update.
The finished build also locks in several launch features: New Game Plus is available from day one, Logan can unlock and equip gold claws, and collectible whiskey bottles scattered through levels support progression and adaptations. Players control Logan throughout the campaign, while companion characters can wear multiple outfits.

The verdict: buy the disc with confidence if owning Wolverine’s complete base game matters to you — but download the day-one patch before the first claws come out.
