The product covered by the offer is the digital Nintendo Switch 2 Standard Edition. Running your original Switch copy through backward compatibility is separate from claiming this native Switch 2 release, so being able to launch Minecraft on the newer console does not mean you have obtained the upgrade.

Who qualifies, and when can you claim?
You qualify through a purchased digital copy of Minecraft for the original Nintendo Switch. The claim channel is Nintendo eShop, and the offer runs from October 27, 2026, through January 31, 2027.
Claim the digital Switch 2 Standard Edition during that window. The upgrade is a limited-time offer rather than a permanent entitlement attached to your original purchase. Players outside the qualifying upgrade route, including those who miss the claim deadline, face the regular $29.99 USD price for the Switch 2 version.
If the eShop presents a regular-price purchase, check your ownership format, the claim dates and your regional offer before paying. Owning Minecraft digitally on a different platform does not satisfy the stated requirement for a purchased original-Switch digital copy.

Japan and Taiwan charge upgrade fees
Japan and Taiwan participate in the upgrade program, but they are exceptions to the fully free offer. The regional prices are:
| Market | Price for eligible digital owners |
|---|---|
| Most territories | Free |
| Japan | 100 JPY |
| Taiwan | 30 NTD |
A 100 JPY or 30 NTD charge therefore matches the offer in those markets. Regional Nintendo eShop pricing, account location and local availability can affect how the upgrade is presented.
What original Switch cartridge owners should expect
The offer’s digital eligibility rule supplies no cartridge-based claim procedure. If your copy is an original Switch cartridge, do not assume inserting it will unlock the Switch 2 edition or trigger an eShop discount. Equally, the digital offer’s wording is not a basis for declaring that physical owners are categorically excluded from every possible upgrade arrangement.
A physical Switch 2 edition is listed for retail preorder. That gives you a purchase route for the new release; the listing itself supplies no upgrade entitlement for an original Switch cartridge.

Where Vibrant Visuals works — and where it does not
The Switch 2 edition supports Vibrant Visuals, enabled by default. Its graphics changes include upgraded lighting, shadows and reflective-water effects. Those improvements depend on the mode and content you are playing.
- Split-screen multiplayer: Vibrant Visuals is unavailable. If couch co-op is your main reason to upgrade, expect to play without this graphics mode.
- Certain Marketplace Worlds and other Marketplace content: Vibrant Visuals may be disabled. Support for the feature in the Switch 2 release does not guarantee support across your Marketplace library.
When the enhanced lighting is absent, check whether you are playing split-screen or using affected Marketplace content before treating it as a graphics-setting problem. Those restrictions can prevent the mode from being available in that session.
Save data and included content
Minecraft game data from the original Switch edition carries over to the Switch 2 release, which also includes the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. Data continuity and graphics compatibility are separate: carrying a world or other content forward does not make it compatible with Vibrant Visuals.
