Nighthawks Acts 2–5 Walkthrough Hub and Route Choices

FinalBoss11 min read

For the cleanest story route, handle Nighthawks Act 2 in this order: Fountaincourt and the Chained Tree, Alistair Wick’s investigation, the Cradlebridge clinic referral chain, Monika Vail’s Angelbreach support route, then the Sanctuary wait command that moves you to the Starlight Dawn. After that, the structure changes. Act 3 is mostly a Cradlebridge pressure cooker built around Tremaine, Seraphine, and the Circle of Ash, Act 4 is about building trial favor through investigations and obligation quests, and Act 5 locks you into Cradlebridge before the final Gideon choice.

Act 2 has one hard political gate: the New Century Commission will not move forward until both Alistair Wick and Monika Vail have been handled. The middle of the act allows you to pursue their objectives in either order, but the clean route is to begin in Fountaincourt, finish the medical investigation chain in Cradlebridge, secure Vail’s support in Angelbreach, then return to the Sanctuary for the commission meeting. For Acts 3–5, the safest way to stay unblocked is to track quest-state changes closely, because later progress turns on investigations, trial favor, and a few very specific branch points rather than one simple region loop.

How the Nighthawks Hub and Regional Travel Work

The Taxi icon on the city map is the practical tool for moving between regions. Do not waste time looking for a physical transition point when an active objective sends you across the city. Open the map, use the Taxi, and jump straight to the district the quest is pushing you toward.

The Sanctuary is the operational hub. In Act 2, it is where the political storyline is advanced and where you later initiate the New Century Commission meeting. Treat it as a return point after major quest-log updates, not a place to revisit after every single conversation.

Quick routing reference for the confirmed hub path

  • Fountaincourt: Chained Tree Plaza and the Asteria Grand Theater. This is where you meet Lizbeth Tremaine, Rupert Winchester, and Alistair Wick.
  • Cradlebridge: Free Clinic and Dr. Sternwood’s office. This is the core of the disease-like outbreak investigation and the referral gate that can stall Act 2.
  • Angelbreach: Monika Vail’s route, plus the Firebird trail that branches through several named locations before looping back to her support objective.
  • Sanctuary: Story hub and the trigger point for the Starlight Dawn commission meeting once both political support routes are complete.

Act 2: Chains of Blood and Money Walkthrough

1. Start at the Chained Tree in Fountaincourt

  • Open the city map and use the Taxi icon to travel to Fountaincourt.
  • Go to Chained Tree Plaza.
  • Interact with the Chained Tree at the centre of the plaza.
  • Select the option to visit the New Century Commission.
  • Speak with Rupert Winchester and Lizbeth Tremaine.

The choice to visit the New Century Commission is the real trigger here. Interacting with the Chained Tree alone does not complete the step. Tremaine assigns two political support objectives: obtain Monika Vail’s backing in Angelbreach and Alistair Wick’s backing in Fountaincourt.

The order is flexible through the middle of Act 2, but starting with Wick is cleaner because his route opens the Cradlebridge medical investigation. That lets you clear one long branch before breaking away for Vail’s separate Angelbreach route.

2. Follow Alistair Wick’s Fountaincourt Investigation

  • Remain in Fountaincourt or return there by Taxi.
  • Travel to the Asteria Grand Theater.
  • Meet Alistair Wick.
  • Follow the investigation into the trouble affecting Fountaincourt.
  • Travel to the Free Clinic in Cradlebridge when the outbreak objective updates.

Wick’s problem is treated as a disease-like outbreak, so the Free Clinic is the required next stop, not an optional lore detour. Speak to Dr. Velasco and ask specifically about the trouble in Fountaincourt. That conversation points you toward Dr. Sternwood’s office.

Dr. Sternwood’s address is not enough by itself. The office is gated by a referral from another doctor, which is the bit that trips people into thinking the objective is bugged. It is not. If Sternwood’s office does not advance the quest immediately, go back through the clinic-linked steps, satisfy the referral condition, and then return.

This branch also folds in Anna and the Firebird investigation. The important habit here is simple: check the active quest log after every major conversation and after each regional jump. If the next destination stops being obvious, go back to the last region tied to the newest objective update instead of rushing to the Sanctuary early.

3. Secure Monika Vail’s Support in Angelbreach

  • Use the Taxi icon to travel to Angelbreach.
  • Pick up Monika Vail’s support route.
  • Follow the Firebird trail through Nighthawks, then Becca, then Gideon.
  • Continue into Apollo’s Grove to find Swede.
  • Push the lead through Ishtar’s Temple and its basement, then Pier 17.
  • Check the Butterfly Club locker reveal.
  • Finish the confrontation involving Swede, Anna, and Gally.
  • Return and make sure the active quest log records Monika’s support before leaving the region.

This is the second hard gate before the Commission can move. The useful thing about Vail’s route is that it is sprawling but concrete: once the Firebird thread starts, it gives you a string of named locations to clear instead of vague political busywork. If you are trying to keep the act tidy, finish that chain in one go rather than bouncing between Angelbreach and the Sanctuary.

What matters most is quest-state confirmation. A vanished marker is not as reliable as the log explicitly showing Vail’s backing has been secured. Do not return to the Sanctuary until both Vail and Wick are done.

4. Trigger the Starlight Dawn Commission Meeting

  • Return to the Sanctuary after completing both support routes.
  • Select the option to wait until the Commission meets.
  • Travel to the Starlight Dawn when the story moves you aboard.
  • Meet Alistair Wick and Monika Vail.
  • Explore all three decks of the ship before or during the meeting sequence.

The Starlight Dawn is the Act 2 transition point. Its three decks are a contained exploration space, so it is worth clearing them before letting the meeting sequence carry the story forward. The Queen of Nightmares arrives during the Commission event, causes an explosion, and kicks off the next act.

Act 2 Mistakes That Stall Progress

  • Using the Chained Tree without choosing the Commission visit: the Tremaine meeting does not start until you pick the correct interaction option.
  • Going straight to Dr. Sternwood: the office is gated by a referral, which makes the Free Clinic and Dr. Velasco conversation necessary.
  • Returning to the Sanctuary after only one support route: finish both the Wick and Vail objectives before waiting for the Commission.
  • Ignoring quest-log updates after Anna or Firebird interactions: these steps can shift the active location quickly, and the act is less linear than it first looks.
  • Rushing through the Starlight Dawn: the ship has three decks, and this is the final contained space before Act 3 breaks things wide open.

Act 3: Crusade of the Dead Key Progression Points

Act 3 is centred on Cradlebridge and pushes the story away from Act 2’s cleaner region loop. This is where Nighthawks leans harder into investigations, local obligations, and the Circle of Ash plot. The named progression points are much clearer than any tidy district-by-district route, so the best way to play this act is to keep sight of the major triggers rather than expect a straight-line checklist.

  • Gather the supplies tied to your active quest chain before pushing deeper into the larger Circle of Ash objectives.
  • Rescue Becca when that objective opens up.
  • To confirm Tremaine’s connection to the Circle of Ash, lure her out of the Chained Tree and investigate her office while she is absent.
  • Seraphine Lascelles, the Queen of Nightmares, can be convinced to hold peace talks with Lizbeth Tremaine at Nighthawks.
  • Handle the explosives sequence carefully: inspect the bomb’s features at the Angelbreach checkpoint, move away, and only then press the detonation button. Press it while you are still in the danger area and it is game over.

The peace-talk choice matters in the moment, but it does not let you dodge Act 3’s end-state. Rupert Winchester’s deed is still pinned on the player, and the act ends with jail time. In other words, do not sit on critical objectives because you think there is a hidden route that skips the accusation. There is not.

“Night of Reclamation” also has a companion-management wrinkle that is easy to miss: you cannot check in on everyone during the sequence. Some of those check-ins raise respect, so prioritise the characters tied to your current obligations or the relationships you actually care about. Separate from that, after “Baby Vampire Blues,” Becca works at the Nighthawks bar as usual. If you pursued her into the corridors, comforted her, and later spoke to her again at the bar, she agrees to visit her parents. That is not the act’s main spine, but it is a real follow-up worth tracking.

Act 4: Treason in the Blood Trial Route

Act 4 turns Gideon’s treason accusation into a favor-and-investigation structure. This is less about one perfect route and more about entering the trial with enough backing behind you. Mercy shown earlier and favors granted to companions count here, so the act rewards players who have been paying attention to relationship-state and side obligations rather than only the headline plot.

  • Work through the obligation quests Old Friends, Baby Vampire Blues, and Funeral for the Dead.
  • Complete open investigations and requests before using the Sanctuary to fast-forward to the trial.
  • Use the Vampire Hunter’s phone to identify Pendragon’s involvement.
  • Follow that Pendragon lead with Monika Vail, who arranges a meeting with a Pendragon official and sends progress by email after a few days.
  • After you have cleared most outstanding obligations, return to the Sanctuary and advance to the trial.

If you have built enough favor, Gideon takes the stand and the people you helped earlier back you against Rupert. That is the important lens for the whole act: the trial is not one neat dialogue test with a magic last-minute answer. It is a payoff sequence for how thoroughly you worked the investigations and how much support you built before stepping into the courtroom.

The act still does not end neatly. After the trial, the player is locked up, and a rat helps with the lockpicking attempt. Treat that as the start of the next progression beat, not as a failure state that means you handled the hearing incorrectly.

Act 5: The Dark Before the Dawn

After the trial, Act 5 restricts the player to Cradlebridge. That tighter scope matters, because the act is not about broad city travel anymore. It is about resolving the Gideon conflict while investigating whether Tremaine is still alive. The Free Clinic comes back into play as an infiltration site, and this time the important evidence is blood tied to Riordan’s logo.

  • Work through the immediate fallout from the trial inside Cradlebridge.
  • Infiltrate the Free Clinic and examine the evidence linked to Riordan’s logo.
  • Keep the Tremaine investigation moving while dealing with Gideon-related conflict.
  • Enter Nighthawks when the story sends you there.
  • Find Gideon and make the direct choice to let him live or kick him out.

The Gideon decision is the cleanest branch point in the late game, but do not overread it. It is a choice about how you want that conflict resolved in the moment, not a shortcut that erases the Act 5 investigation work leading up to it.

Cradlebridge and Necropolis Route Limits

Cradlebridge is the recurring practical centre for the later acts. It holds the Free Clinic, carries much of Act 3’s pressure, becomes the locked-in play space after the trial in Act 5, and keeps feeding back into the Sanctuary’s broader story function. If you are trying to orient yourself from Act 3 onward, start there.

What you should not do is force a Necropolis detour into the confirmed critical path. The route that is clearly established here is the Act 2 political-support loop and the named later-act progression points above. Beyond those anchors, follow the active quest log instead of assuming there is a required Necropolis leg hidden inside the same sequence. The clean verified spine remains: Chained Tree Commission visit, Wick investigation, Free Clinic referral path, Vail support, Sanctuary wait command, and the Starlight Dawn transition.
