Switch transfers are console-led processes, but they still rely on Nintendo services at key points — making this a poor window to move an account, individual saves, or a full setup between systems. Nintendo has scheduled simultaneous maintenance for both “transfer your user data” and “transfer your save data,” rather than a general Switch Online outage.

The exact Switch transfer maintenance window

The planned downtime begins at 10:30 p.m. PT on August 25 and ends at 12:30 a.m. PT on August 26. The same two-hour window runs from 1:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. ET, 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the UK, and 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in Europe. Both user-data transfer and save-data transfer are listed for those exact hours.

That distinction matters because local file management is not the same as a migration. Moving screenshots, videos, or supported software data between system memory and a microSD card is separate from transferring a user or save. Players preparing a new console should not assume that a local storage move substitutes for an account or save-data transfer.

What to do before starting

• Finish the transfer before the maintenance begins, or wait until the full two-hour window has passed.
• Check the time zone against the listed regional schedule before beginning; the date changes overnight in North America.
• Keep both consoles charged and follow the on-screen steps without deliberately interrupting the process.
• Do not start immediately before 10:30 p.m. PT: Nintendo has not said whether a migration already underway will pause, fail, or resume once maintenance starts.

Nintendo says additional maintenance sessions may be added during the week of August 23, but these are the only two transfer sessions currently planned. The practical move is simple: schedule a Switch migration well outside the posted window and check Nintendo’s maintenance status again before committing to it.
