No Rest for the Wicked’s Delay Changes the Smart Time to Buy

Moon Studios has delayed No Rest for the Wicked’s PC and PS5 1.0 launch from October 2026 to March 2027, with a final public beta planned for December.

In an action RPG where a weapon choice can define an entire run, rebuilding the class system is not a background task. It is the kind of work that can change whether a swordsman, rune-focused caster, or hybrid build feels deliberate rather than interchangeable. That is the real reason the extra five months matter.

Moon Studios has moved No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 from October 2026 to March 2027, saying it will not compromise on its internal quality and performance standard. Game director Thomas Mahler said extensive playtesting showed the game was not quite ready. The March release covers PC and PlayStation 5; Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 editions remain planned without dates.

The next major checkpoint is December 2026’s open PTR, described as the final public test before launch. Moon also plans more closed tests beforehand. Players should use those sessions to stress the areas now explicitly receiving more attention: performance, combat balance, and the evolving class design.

That redesign is intended to be adaptive rather than a conventional character-creation menu. Progression is built around the weapons and actions a character uses, alongside traits and Cerim runes. The key question for the December test is whether stat choices, rune loadouts, and weapon specialisation still create meaningfully different builds — or whether a more flexible system erases the trade-offs that make buildcraft worth mastering.

Steam Early Access remains the right purchase for players who want to participate in that process, not for those seeking a finished first playthrough. Buyers on Steam before January 1, 2027 qualify for Founders Pack rewards, including Sayer’s Vow, a Custom Founders Tag, the Spirit Cavern hideout, and continued access to an exclusive public beta realm after 1.0. PS5 pre-orders are set to open in January with Founders rewards attached.

Verdict: buy now only if testing an unfinished, shifting ARPG is part of the appeal; everyone else should hold until the December PTR proves the class overhaul and March 2027 launch build can carry the weight.

Was this worth your time?
