Open the pause menu, go to Equipment, then select the Charms tab to equip an Onimusha: Way of the Sword charm. Open Equipment → Charms, select an available charm slot, then choose the charm you want active. The effect applies immediately, with no Red Soul cost, cooldown, or consumable requirement.

The confusing part is that the Charm Enhancement screen at Enma’s Hall only upgrades charms. It does not set your active loadout. Exit that shrine interface and return to Equipment → Charms whenever you want to change what is equipped.

The Charms tab can be easy to overlook early in the campaign because it becomes useful only after you have acquired a charm. Once the Charm of the Healer is in your inventory, make a habit of checking the tab before missions with a difficult duel, a malice-heavy route, or a specific achievement objective.

How Charm Slots Unlock

You begin with one active charm slot. Your next capacity upgrade is tied to progression: earn enough Way of the Sword Power Stones to unlock the relevant Basic Skill, which increases your active charm capacity to two. By the middle of the game, a standard build has three active charm slots alongside the separate default Hozuki Pouch equipment slot. Do not count the pouch as a fourth charm; it is a different piece of gear with its own role in the wider build.

Each upgrade consumes Red Souls and Favor. Red Souls come from defeated Genma, while Favor comes through offerings, world pickups, and stock available through Yorimasa’s Monument. Charms generally have three levels, and each level improves the same passive effect rather than changing the charm’s function.

The full 15-charm upgrade project is expensive: bringing every core quest charm to Level 3 requires roughly 135,000 Red Souls and 150,000 Favor. Early on, put essential upgrade materials into your weapon first, then invest in the two or three charms that fit your current build. Spreading resources across every charm immediately delays both your damage upgrades and meaningful passive gains.

Charm upgrades are worth the cost because both the charm inventory and enhancement levels carry into New Game+. Your active charms also remain equipped between New Game+ cycles, even though story weapons and campaign progress must be earned again. A maxed healing, defense, or gauge-focused setup therefore improves every repeat run and is particularly valuable for Carnage difficulty.

The best charms in Onimusha: Way of the Sword depend on whether you need survivability, faster offensive gauges, or a specific progression trigger. Use Charm of Enticement for RNG Rescue Trophies

Charm of Enticement has modest value in a normal damage build, but it becomes one of the most useful utility charms when chasing RNG-heavy rescue and encounter trophies. Its effect increases Genma encounter rate, giving you more opportunities to trigger the Chance Encounters and enemy appearances required for late-game cleanup.

Swap Enticement in before repeating the relevant activity, then replace it once the encounter or rescue requirement is complete. This is a much better use of a charm slot than leaving it equipped throughout a hard boss sequence, where Charm of Protection, Healer, Zeal, or Stamina provides a more immediate combat benefit.
