Pokémon Pokopia Halloween Event: How to Get Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist

FinalBoss5 min read

In Pokémon Pokopia’s Halloween event, you befriend Pumpkaboo outside a rebuilt Pokémon Center. You then use Ditto’s Camouflage to scare Pokémon for Pumpkin Candy and spend that candy on the furniture that attracts Gourgeist. Both Pokémon stay permanently if you befriend them before the event ends on November 1, 2026.

Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises runs from October 17, 2026, at 5:00 a.m. until November 1 at 4:59 a.m. Both times follow your Nintendo Switch 2’s local system clock. The event closes before dawn on November 1, so October 31 is your last full day to finish.

What you need before starting

  • Version 2.0.1 or later: update Pokémon Pokopia before looking for the event.
  • A fully rebuilt Pokémon Center: you need at least one completed Center in your world for the event to begin.
  • An eligible location: the event is unavailable in Cloud Island and Bubbling Seabed Town.
  • Camouflage unlocked for Ditto: the candy-collection activity depends on this ability. Zorua teaches it to Ditto in Bleak Beach.

How to unlock Camouflage from Zorua

Zorua teaches the ability, but Ditto is the one who uses it. If you have reached a Pokémon Center but have not learned Camouflage yet, make that your next progression goal:

  1. In Bleak Beach, look near the Pokémon Center for a square block that looks out of place. That block is Zorua in disguise.
  2. Use Rock Smash on the block to reveal Zorua.
  3. Accept Zorua’s Show Off Some Toy Blocks request.
  4. Craft a Toy Block and deliver it to Zorua.

Completing the request unlocks Camouflage for Ditto. You need nothing else to take part in the candy activity.

Find and befriend Pumpkaboo

Once the event opens, visit a completed Pokémon Center in an eligible town. Pumpkaboo waits outside the Center, so start there rather than searching the surrounding map.

Speak to Pumpkaboo, accept its request, and complete its friendship interactions. Pumpkaboo introduces the Halloween activity and runs the temporary shop where you exchange event currency for furniture.

If Pumpkaboo is missing, check three things: that the event has opened, that your game is on version 2.0.1 or later, and that the Center is fully restored. A Center in Cloud Island or Bubbling Seabed Town will not give you access to this event.

Collect Pumpkin Candy with Camouflage

The event currency is the pumpkin lollipop, which the English version calls Pumpkin Candy. You earn it by flipping trick-or-treat around: instead of receiving candy from Pokémon, you scare it out of them. Each scare follows the same three-step loop:

  1. Copy an object: use Ditto’s Camouflage to transform into a nearby piece of furniture or another object that a Pokémon in the area likes.
  2. Wait to be noticed: let that Pokémon approach and recognize or comment on the disguised object.
  3. Reveal Ditto: cancel the transformation at close range to startle the Pokémon. A successful scare rewards Pumpkin Candy.

The step that trips people up is the waiting. Transforming into an object on its own does not complete the activity. The Pokémon has to come over and notice the disguise before you reveal yourself.

Repeat these scares around eligible towns, then return to Pumpkaboo outside the Pokémon Center to spend your candy.

Trade for furniture and attract Gourgeist

Speak with Pumpkaboo to open its event shop and exchange Pumpkin Candy for Halloween furniture and decorations. Prioritize the furnishings needed for Gourgeist’s special habitat before spending your supply on extra decorative pieces.

Place the required Halloween furnishings together to build Gourgeist’s habitat. Once it is assembled, wait for Gourgeist to appear, then interact with it and complete its friendship sequence. Gourgeist is Pumpkaboo’s evolution, but during this event you recruit it through the furniture-built habitat rather than by evolving Pumpkaboo.

Finish both parts before the deadline. Building the habitat brings Gourgeist to visit, and completing the friendship interactions lets it stay afterward. If you only buy the furniture, the recruitment is still unfinished.

What stays after the Halloween event?

Both Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist remain permanently if you befriend them during the event. For Gourgeist, that means you must attract it through its habitat and complete its friendship interactions while the event is still active.

The candy activity and Pumpkaboo’s temporary shop close with the event at 4:59 a.m. on November 1. Make the furniture purchases you want and finish both friendships before that cutoff. Do not leave Gourgeist’s arrival and friendship steps for the last night, because once the shop closes you cannot buy any missing habitat pieces.
