Pokémon Pokopia’s 5M Sales Put Its Switch 2 DLC Plan in Focus

Five million copies in a little over four months gives Pokémon Pokopia a substantial installed audience before its post-launch plan reaches its later stages. The result matters less as a sales comparison than as confirmation that the game’s slow-paced crafting and town-building loop now has enough momentum to support a multi-part Expansion Pass through 2027.

Pokémon Pokopia launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5, 2026, built around a Ditto restoring a desolate area by gathering materials, growing vegetables, constructing furniture and shaping homes. Befriending Pokémon expands the available move set, letting players alter the environment and attract further species. Its day-night cycle, weather and distinct biomes make progression partly dependent on how players develop each location rather than simply advancing through a fixed campaign.

The immediate priority is the free software update, which adds Dive1 and opens underwater exploration for all owners. That move directly supports the first paid Expansion Pass chapter, Bubbly Basin. Available now, Bubbly Basin adds an underwater town, more Pokémon to find, furniture recipes and food to prepare. Players returning this week should install the update first, then decide whether the new underwater area justifies buying the pass rather than treating it as a required purchase for the base game.

The wider roadmap is more limited in detail. Expansion Pass Part 2 is scheduled for late 2026 and will add wearable accessories for Pokémon. Part 3 is planned for 2027. Those later chapters are the content to defer judgment on: there is no stated reason to expect Bubbly Basin purchases or Dive1 progression to unlock their eventual goals, beyond the broad Expansion Pass structure.

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company count the 5 million total across physical and digital sales, with no regional or format breakdown disclosed. The next meaningful measure is whether Part 2 adds a system deeper than cosmetics while maintaining the core building and collection loop.
