If you ever thought “management RPG meets Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater” sounded like the fever dream crossover nobody asked for, Promise Mascot Agency is here to make that dream a (very weird) reality. The game was already one of Steam’s most delightfully bizarre open-world genre-mashups, but with the new “Prepare To Grind” update, players can now ollie their rusty kei truck onto train tracks, grind rails, and channel their inner skater-no kickflips, but honestly, that’s probably for the best.
I’ve seen my share of “quirky” indie RPGs, but Promise Mascot Agency takes weirdness to an art form. On release, it already mashed up open-world driving, management sim, deckbuilding, and mascot crime-solving. Even so, a truck-grinding mechanic made me laugh out loud. Think about it: grinding rails in a kei truck—a janky, compact utility vehicle that’s basically the antithesis of anything Tony Hawk’s ever ridden. Genius or insanity? Both, and that’s kind of the point.
According to patch notes, you’ll need to find an “upgrade fox” (of course) near an abandoned village to unlock the new grind mode. It’s pure video game logic—find a fox, upgrade your ride, defy gravity. If the concept sounds goofy, that’s because it is, but that kind of irreverent design is exactly what gives Promise Mascot Agency its cult following.

If you’ve never played PMA, the core is juggling a cast of misfit mascots—finding them work, paying off protagonist Michi’s towering debt, all while uncovering mysteries and maybe just enjoying how unhinged your day-to-day has become. The management sim loop is solid, and the world itself is packed with oddities: your truck can already glide and turn amphibious, and now you can grind rails. The “Prepare to Grind” update goes further, tossing in new Hero Cards for deckbuilding fans, each riffing off beloved indies like Paradise Killer or Unbeatable. (Love indie crossovers? This is your new playground.)
The difficulty tweaks are also notable. PMA’s debt repayment mechanic is infamous—you can now adjust how punishing it gets. Veteran sim fans looking for punishment or casuals seeking a smoother ride both get a nod. More RPGs could use this kind of flexibility, honestly.

The devs at Kaizen Game Works aren’t satisfied with just mechanical updates—they’re pumping in new flavor, too. Seasonal props appear for Halloween, Christmas, and Obon, reflective of the game’s oddball festive spirit. As for Pinky, the already unnerving mascot who’s basically an ambulatory finger, she gets new nail designs. Because PMA is nothing if not committed to making you ask: “Why not?”
If you’re worried it’s all just random for random’s sake, it’s not—under the chaos, there’s a weirdly cohesive experience that rewards curiosity and a willingness to let go of convention. PMA isn’t trying to be your next stat-crunchy epic or bland grind-fest. It’s carving its own lane in indie RPG weirdness, and this update just leans farther into its strengths.

Promise Mascot Agency’s “Prepare To Grind” free update cranks an already wild RPG up to 11, adding rail-grinding kei trucks, indie game Hero Cards, and more. If you want an offbeat, genre-blending adventure that delivers both laughs and surprisingly solid mechanics, this latest update is one more excuse to dive in. At 25% off, the price is right for a joyride through gaming’s quirkiest new agency.
