Rainbow Six has not had a dedicated single-player entry since Rainbow Six Vegas 2 in 2008, making Rainbow Six Tactics more than a genre experiment. Revealed at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25, 2026, it recasts the series’ familiar counter-terror operations around deliberate positioning, scouting, and coordinated assaults rather than reflex shooting.
The central change is what happens before a door is kicked in. Players act as Six, choose missions from HQ, study available intelligence, select a squad of up to four Operators, and build a plan around each specialist’s gadgets and skill tree. The launch roster contains 15 Operators drawn from Rainbow Six Siege. Glaz’s long-range rifle, Nøkk’s ability to move between sightlines, and Sledge’s wall-breaking hammer point to a game where squad composition determines the viable route through a map.

Drones, breaching tools, cover, overwatch, and destructible environments carry over from Siege, but their role changes. Scouting is preparation for a turn-based assault, while breaking a wall or choosing an entry point can reshape sightlines before the enemy reacts. A reported Breach system allows all four Operators to act in a synchronized attack, though Ubisoft has not yet detailed whether that is universal or mission-specific.
The campaign spans more than 45 locations worldwide and includes Hostage Rescue, Bomb Disposal, and Target Elimination scenarios. That objective mix should make the tactical question less about winning a gunfight and more about controlling the board: protect a hostage, deny enemy angles, preserve an approach, then commit the right tools at the right moment. Ubisoft has also said the game has no multiplayer mode, in-game store, or live-service structure.

Rainbow Six Tactics is due in 2027, with no final date announced. The decisive test is whether its breach planning makes Siege’s Operator identities feel deeper in turn-based form — not merely slower.
