Rockstar’s GTA 6 Union Case Heads Toward a September Tribunal

A UK tribunal will hear fired Rockstar workers’ union-busting claims as GTA 6 staff press for protections against crunch, layoffs and unchecked AI use.

The case matters beyond a single dismissal dispute because Rockstar is approaching the final stretch of Grand Theft Auto VI’s development. Workplace rules covering overtime, staffing security and management transparency could shape how the studio handles one of the industry’s largest releases.

Rockstar dismissed roughly 31 to 34 UK employees in October 2025, citing gross misconduct. The Independent Workers of Great Britain and the affected staff contend that the dismissals were connected to union activity. A judge previously declined to grant interim relief, so the workers were not temporarily reinstated while the case continued.

The dispute has now cleared an important procedural stage: the workers can bring their union-busting allegations to trial. The tribunal is expected in September, where the central question will be whether Rockstar’s stated misconduct rationale was lawful or masked retaliation against organizing efforts.

What GTA 6 workers are seeking

Staff organizing around Rockstar have sought recognition and workplace protections aimed at the pressures of major-game production. Their priorities include limits on crunch, greater pay transparency, safeguards against layoffs and constraints on how artificial intelligence is introduced into work. Those issues are especially consequential for GTA 6, whose scale raises familiar concerns about extended overtime and shifting production demands.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Preorders open June 25, with the standard edition priced at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99. Rockstar has set preload for November 12, while no PC release date has been confirmed.

Watch the September tribunal schedule and any recognition developments: they will offer the clearest indication of whether GTA 6’s final production period brings enforceable workplace changes or remains governed by Rockstar’s existing policies.
