Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
The galaxy is in peril. Entire worlds are falling. The Imperium needs you. Embody the superhuman skill and brutality of a Space Marine, the greatest of the Emp…
This caught my attention because Space Marine 2 isn’t doing the usual “30-minute slice and vibes” trial. Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive have opened the gates to a real chunk of the game-campaign intro, three Operations, and most Eternal War modes-with full progression carryover and a hefty sale attached. If you bounced off the marketing or sat on the fence after launch, this is the best, lowest-risk look yet at whether the bolter-and-chainsword loop really lands for you.
On PS5 and Xbox, you’ve got October 16-20 to dive in; Steam players get until October 23. You can play the campaign intro and first mission, hit three Operations (Inferno, Decapitation, Vox Liberatis), and sample Eternal War’s roster—minus the new Helbrute Onslaught mode. Multiplayer is live, progression carries over if you buy, and there’s a limited-time Discord Quest reward on top of Twitch Drops running October 16–24. It’s basically a mini-season packed into a week.
Platform flavor matters too. DualSense haptics on PS5 sell the weight of the bolt pistol snap and chainsword rev better than most shooters. Xbox Quick Resume is perfect for dipping into Operations. On PC, ultrawide and unlocked framerates make horde fights sing—just remember to tweak shadows and post-processing if you’re aiming for 120fps during the thickest Tyranid swarms.

Saber knows horde shooters—World War Z didn’t happen by accident. Space Marine 2 leans on that DNA for its PvE grinds while still honoring the 2011 Relic classic’s arena-clear swagger. Letting players try multiple modes is the right call because the campaign alone doesn’t tell you if you’ll like its endgame cadence: pushing Operations for gear, then rotating into Eternal War. If you’re here for cinematic setpieces only, you’ll know quickly. If you’re here to chainsaw your way into better loot rolls, the demo gives you the runway.
The conspicuous omission is Helbrute Onslaught. Holding it back is a classic live-service cadence play—save a fresh carrot for after the demo surge. Given Saber’s track record, expect a wave-based, high-pressure PvE mode with boss variants and leaderboard bait. That’s great, but it also means what you’re testing this week is the “current” endgame, not the near-future one. If you’re on the fence, you might want to see how Onslaught lands before you commit to an edition with season passes.
Up to 50% off is no joke, and the carryover makes an immediate purchase tempting. My rule of thumb: if the melee-ranged rhythm and co-op flow click within two sessions, grab the Standard Edition and see how Helbrute Onslaught lands. If you’re already eyeing weekly clears and seasonal grinds, the Anniversary Editions bundle more content and typically make sense over piecemeal DLC—just read the inclusions carefully so you’re not paying for cosmetics you don’t care about.
If you mainly want a cinematic co-op campaign jaunt with friends and don’t plan to live in Eternal War, the base game at a discount is the sweet spot. If you love optimizing builds and chasing seasonal challenges, the 1- or 2-Year bundles are fine—but don’t let FOMO talk you into a two-year plan you won’t use. Space Marine is about catharsis; the best edition is the one that respects your time as much as you want to purge xenos.
Expect Helbrute Onslaught news shortly after the demo wraps—Saber likes to keep the content treadmill moving. Also watch for balance patches; modes like Eternal War can shift fast when one class or weapon starts outpacing the rest. If you’re a lapsed player, this demo week is effectively a soft relaunch with community momentum: streaming Drops, Discord events, and a sale that lowers the barrier to re-entry.
Space Marine 2’s free demo isn’t fluff—it’s a legit slice across campaign, Operations, and Eternal War with full carryover and big discounts. Try co-op, rotate classes, bank free cosmetics, and decide if the core loop hooks you. If it does, buy the base game on sale now and reassess the Anniversary bundles after Helbrute Onslaught drops.
