State of Decay 3: How to Join the Closed PC Beta – Free Sign-Up

The emailed follow-up questionnaire is required for beta consideration. Submitting the initial registration without completing that form leaves your application incomplete.

How to register for the State of Decay 3 PC beta

Use playtest.stateofdecay.com, the official State of Decay 3 playtest registration site. The application asks for your date of birth, requires a Discord account connection, and lets you confirm or change the email address Undead Labs should use to contact you.

Choose an email address you can access, because the application continues there. After submitting the initial registration, complete the follow-up questionnaire sent to that address. Discord is part of registration, but connecting it does not remove the email requirement.

• If the questionnaire has not arrived: check the inbox associated with the email address you selected during registration, including its spam or junk folder.
• If you registered for the earlier alpha: you remain on the list for possible future tests and do not need to register again.
• If you have completed both forms: monitor that contact email for an invitation. A completed application does not automatically provide a download or access to the test.

Why registration does not guarantee an invitation

Undead Labs selects participants for the closed beta. Registration and the required questionnaire make you eligible for consideration; entry still depends on receiving an invitation. The same distinction applies to players carried over from the earlier alpha registration pool.

There is no published tester count or invitation-wave schedule. A lack of an immediate invitation so does not, by itself, identify a registration problem. Check that you completed the emailed questionnaire before treating the wait as a failed application.

When the PC beta starts and when consoles follow

The closed beta is scheduled to begin before the end of 2026, following limited alpha playtests that began in April 2026. The announcement provides a year-end window, with the exact PC opening date still to come.

The first beta phase focuses on PC. Further testing opportunities are planned, with console access following later; there is no announced date for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S participation. Console players should not treat the PC beta window as their own access date.

State of Decay 3’s full release is planned for 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That release target is separate from the closed-beta schedule.

PC requirements, beta content and price

Registration is open ahead of several practical details needed to install and run the test:

• Hardware requirements: minimum and recommended PC specifications have not been published.
• Installation platform: the beta’s storefront and launcher requirements are unspecified, including whether it will use Steam, the Xbox app for PC, or both.
• Test scope: the precise playable content, progression rules and testing duration have not been detailed.
• Full-game price: the finished game’s purchase price has not been announced.

The PC playtest is free. Do not pay a third party for a purported beta key: the official route is the playtest registration site, the required email questionnaire and selection by Undead Labs. Free PC participation does not establish the terms of later console tests.
