Let’s face it: tabletop RPG nights often stall under piles of rulebooks, scheduling headaches, and fiddly tech. Enter Sunderfolk, Dreamhaven’s cozy indie fantasy. Crafted by the studio helmed by Blizzard’s ex-CEO, this game fuses digital board tactics with the warmth of your kitchen table—no dice or minis required.

Rule-Free, Controller-Free Co-op

  • Play free with friends: Only one person needs the game. Everyone else joins via phone or tablet at no extra cost.
  • Instant setup: Rules, character sheets, and dice rolls live in-game. Dive into strategy and story without hunting tokens.

Sunderfolk drops you and up to three friends into Arden, a village besieged by shadowy forces. Choose your champion—berserker bear, markhor ranger, sly crow arcanist, and more—and tackle skirmishes with the Fate Card system. Every attack draws a card that might boost your strike, redirect an enemy’s blow, or backfire for extra chaos.

The real MVP is the phones-as-controllers setup. One copy unlocks the session—guests scan a QR code or hop in via browser. Think Jackbox meets tactical RPG, finally freeing digital co-op from the “everyone needs their own copy” gridlock.

The demo is impressively generous: all four opening missions, every hero unlocked, plus carry-over saves—no “15-minute trial” roadblocks. The full game is priced at $39.99/£35.99 with a 20% launch discount through June 26, offering solid indie value.

Long-term appeal will hinge on post-launch support. Mission variety, DLC plans, or modding tools could keep Arden alive well past the demo. Dreamhaven’s early moves look promising, but we’ll be watching to see how the world expands.

TL;DR

Sunderfolk proves co-op RPGs can be smooth, social, and stress-free. One copy, phones as controllers, instant setup, full hero roster, and real progress—co-op gaming done right.
