Two routes in The Blood of Dawnwalker can end Coen’s story long before the standard finale at Griefberg Castle. The Coward’s Path route is the practical endgame skip: it sends Coen out of Vale Sangora through the Cursed Chasm exit and rolls credits immediately. Home Sweet Home is a separate secret-ending route that traps Coen in a family time loop and awards the Together Forever achievement or trophy.
Keep those outcomes separate. Coward’s Path bypasses Griefberg Castle entirely, while an early approach to Griefberg is a high-risk way to reach late-game territory. Both routes contain point-of-no-return moments, so create manual saves before committing.

Choose the Correct Ending Route Before Leaving a Shrine
| Route | Primary requirement | Point of no return | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coward’s Path / Cursed Chasm | After the prologue, Corruption Level 11, Shadow Dweller level 2, Shadowstep | Selecting Leave the Valley forever at the western gate | Immediate credits; A Hero They Deserve and The Blood of Dawnwalker achievements or trophies |
| Early Griefberg Castle approach | Reach Spart City, wait for moonrise, use jumps and Planeshift to scale the walls | Entering the courtyard | Accelerated access to late-game danger; the courtyard fight usually ends an underprepared attempt |
| Home Sweet Home | Enter the tower through its top door and complete four full loops | Speaking to Esme during the fifth sequence | Together Forever secret ending and its hidden achievement or trophy |
Requirements for the Coward’s Path Endgame Skip
The Coward’s Path exit becomes available once the prologue ends and the open world opens up. It sits on the western side of Vale Sangora, around the Briar Sloughs, near the broken bridge and open gates beyond the Cursed Chasm. Griefberg Castle is not part of this route.
- Finish the prologue to gain access to the overworld and shrine network.
- Unlock Coward’s Path Shrine before attempting the crossing. It provides fast travel, a nearby respawn point, and time-of-day control.
- Reach Corruption Level 11.
- Buy Shadow Dweller level 2 in the vampirism skill tree. This extends Shadowstep far enough to clear the broken bridge reliably.
- Use Shadowstep. Planeshift is useful for the canyon-wall alternative, especially if you choose the upper route.
- Make a manual save before approaching the final open gate.
The key trap is attempting the bridge with base Shadowstep. Its range can leave Coen short of the far ledge. Shadow Dweller level 2 is the clean threshold for the direct crossing, and it avoids turning the skip into repeated falls and long respawn runs.
How to Reach the Cursed Chasm Exit
Set Coward’s Path Shrine to Night
Fast-travel to Coward’s Path Shrine and use the shrine to advance time to night. Night is the correct state for this route because Shadowstep and Planeshift are far more effective for the terrain around the chasm, while enemy patrols are less likely to interrupt the traversal.
Using the shrine also fixes your respawn position near the attempt. That matters more than it first appears: failed jumps, bad Planeshift placement, and early wolf encounters can otherwise send you back across a large section of the overworld.
Stay on the High Road
From the shrine, take the upper path along the canyon instead of dropping fully into the valley. The lower route contains high-level wolf packs that can overwhelm an early or traversal-focused Coen. If enemy health bars display additional skulls beside soldiers or animals, treat the encounter as a warning to disengage; run past when possible, or block every hit while creating space to escape.
The Cursed Chasm quest can activate as you approach the broken bridge. Ignore its objective marker for this ending route. The required path is across the gap and west toward the exit gate, rather than deeper into the quest’s intended combat or exploration flow.

Cross the Broken Bridge
At the broken bridge, aim Shadowstep at the far ledge and use the maximum range provided by Shadow Dweller level 2. Do not cast early from the safe side of the road; move close enough that the destination ledge is clearly within the ability’s targeting range.
If direct Shadowstep placement remains awkward, use the upper canyon terrain instead. Planeshift can help Coen climb sections of the wall, after which Shadowstep carries him between higher footholds. This version takes longer, but it reduces the need to fight through the valley floor.
Take the Western Gate Choice
Continue west after crossing the chasm. Snow begins to fall as the route approaches the valley wall, where an open gate marks the actual exit. Interact with it to trigger Coen’s internal monologue and two choices:
- Leave the Valley forever: Coen abandons Vale Sangora, his family, and the conflict. Credits begin immediately, and the route awards A Hero They Deserve and The Blood of Dawnwalker.
- Stay in the Valley: Coen turns back and the campaign continues normally. This is the safe choice when the goal is to inspect the route without ending the current run.
Use the manual save made before the gate if you want both outcomes on one broader playthrough. The exit does not lead into Griefberg Castle or preserve access to unfinished faction arcs after credits begin.
Early Griefberg Castle Access Uses a Different Route
Griefberg Castle is effectively the campaign’s conventional finale, with Brencis and his vassals positioned as the late-game objective. Reaching it early is possible after the prologue, but this approach serves players testing late-game access rather than players seeking the Coward’s Path credits skip.
Head south toward Spart City after the prologue and tag every shrine on the way. Each activated shrine becomes a future fast-travel point and a safer respawn location, which prevents a failed castle attempt from becoming a full cross-map return trip.
- Watch the map warning around Spart City and Griefberg Castle. The large skull marker indicates that the route is far beyond the intended early-game difficulty.
- Use any town shrine to wait until moonrise. Griefberg Castle can be entered at night.
- Reach the castle gate after moonrise, then scale the outer walls with jumps and Planeshift.
- Keep a manual save before the courtyard. The courtyard warning is a point of no return.
The courtyard battle is built around much stronger opposition than an early Coen is expected to handle. Without an exceptionally clean no-hit run, reaching that battle generally ends the attempt. Reload the pre-courtyard save after testing the route rather than sacrificing the active campaign file.

Unlock the Together Forever Secret Ending
The Together Forever ending comes from Home Sweet Home, not from leaving through Coward’s Path. This route is a permanent time-loop branch: Coen repeatedly returns to his family and relives the chain of events surrounding the church attack until he accepts the loop instead of escaping it.
Enter the Home Sweet Home Tower
Home Sweet Home begins at a tower whose lower entrances are locked. The usable entrance is the door at the top, so reach the upper level with traversal powers. Shadowstep and Planeshift provide the vertical movement needed to climb into the tower and start the quest.
Create a manual save before progressing deeply into the quest. Home Sweet Home is structured around repeated sequences, and the secret result depends on completing them in a precise order.
Complete Four Loops, Then Commit on the Fifth
- Finish the first Home Sweet Home sequence.
- Repeat the sequence through the second, third, and fourth runs.
- On the fifth sequence, return home.
- Speak to Esme and continue the scene.
During the fifth sequence, Esme explains that Coen is trapped with his entire family forever. Continuing this scene triggers the Together Forever secret ending, including its hidden achievement or trophy. The save becomes locked into the dreamlike loop outcome, so a save from before the fifth run is required if you also intend to complete Griefberg Castle or pursue another ending on the same campaign branch.
The Southeast Outpost Route and Its Limits
The extreme southeast outpost is a useful traversal route when exploring alternate-ending access paths, but it does not replace the Home Sweet Home loop sequence required for Together Forever. Handle it as separate movement preparation and keep a manual save before using the valley exit passage.
- Travel to the enemy camp in the extreme southeast corner of the map.
- Use Shadowstep to scale the outpost walls.
- Move through the outpost to its back exit gate.
- Use Shadowstep over the gate, drop to ground level, and follow the road to the exit passage for the valley.
The consistent rule across every early-ending branch is save separation. Keep one manual save before the Coward’s Path gate, one before entering Griefberg’s courtyard, and one before the fifth Home Sweet Home loop. That preserves access to the standard campaign while allowing the early credits and Together Forever outcomes to be collected independently.
